300 ultra mag Report post Posted November 29, 2007 Out here in Colorado I perty much spot and stalk for deer and bear. For elk I spot and stalk and call. What do most coues bow hunters do spot and stalk or sit on water holes or trails or call? What are some good coues units to hunt in Az. On a average day of bow hunting in the January rut how many coues deer will you see? Thanks again Gabe
elpepe25 Report post Posted November 29, 2007 i really like the spot and stalk stuff, but sitting water works great too. The thing ive notice when sitting water is that you get what comes in, nothing more. When you spot and stalk you have the option of looking over vast amounts of country, finding quite a few bucks, then analyzing what you want. i believe you find more trophy quality bucks w/ spot and stalk

cjw2222 Report post Posted November 29, 2007 If ya want a challenge with a chance of seein bigger buck and having bigger bragging rights then definately the spot and stalk. although this will require much practice and skill/luck for you to get a kill. but its the only way i have ever seen and will ever bow hunt any thing unless its callin in bull elk for that buglin gets me hotter than the cows he's after
DesertBull Report post Posted November 29, 2007 Early season, water and trail sitting. Late season, spot and stalk.
Snapshot Report post Posted November 29, 2007 Like everyone else said! I love the late archery hunt, hardly any competition, but unless you have a particular buck/s patterned and or a water hole that has good activity it can be tough, but thats what makes it fun and challenging. I spot and stalk mostly, sitting water holes is not my favorite way to hunt, but it works if they are not watering after dark. For Coues I like the first 2-3 weeks of January during the peak of the rut, the late december rifle hunts are over and if you find the does the bucks will be there, but it makes it tougher to get in close. 300 ultra mag Report post Posted November 30, 2007 Thanks again for all of the info. Everybody likes to spot and stalk probably because it is so fun. Gabe
mattys281 Report post Posted November 30, 2007 I like spotting & stalking too, but due to the fact that I've missed every shot I've had at a deer & am getting pretty hard-up just to connect on one at this point, this year my plan is to simply pack into some remote water holes I've located & sit it out. I think that I've got a much lesser chance at getting a big buck like that, but a much better chance at getting a buck, period. Who knows, might get lucky & have a booner roll in. I've got 5 days in December & 12 in January, so time is on my side. Anyhow, this year I'm playing the odds & if I get that first one down, next year it'll probably be back to spot & stalk. Matt S.
