300 ultra mag Report post Posted November 28, 2007 Hi guys I am new to the site and to coues hunting. I was wondering how good of a tag the over the counter bow coues tag is(I am not asking for spots, you work too hard finding them to give them away). Is the hunting pressure pretty high in the south eastern part of Az. I was thinking a combo coues and pig hunt might be fun when all of Colorado big game is over. I have killed a lot of things with a bow but I am sure I need to add coues deer to the list. Thanks a lot , Gabe P.S. If you need info on hunting Colorado I will try to help, feel free to e-mail me
IHunt2live Report post Posted November 28, 2007 To me the difficulty is not in hunting pressure but getting close enough for a shot. During archery hunts I hardly ever run into other hunters, not saying there not out there though. Being able to hunt just about anywhere in the state, and hunting during the rut, I would say its a good tag. Give it a try and remember any coues with a bow is a trophy. Red Rabbit Report post Posted November 29, 2007 Gabe, Here is a list of leftover javelina permits if you wish to combine the archery coues with pig. http://www.azgfd.gov/eservices/documents/2...eList071121.pdf The 36 units should offer a good combo, with some illegal traffic thrown in. Might also consider unit 33 for less illegal alien traffic than 36. Doug~RR
mikep35 Report post Posted November 29, 2007 The over the counter bow tags are the best and hardest in my opinion. You won't find nearly as many hunters but you have to be one sneaky SOB to get close enough for a shot, although there are a few hunters on this site that have done it. Hunting coues with a bow is probably one of the hardest hunts you'll ever do.
Snapshot Report post Posted November 29, 2007 Like everyone else said! I love the late archery hunt, hardly any competition, but unless you have a particular buck/s patterned and or a water hole that has good activity it can be tough, but thats what makes it fun and challenging. I spot and stalk mostly, sitting water holes is not my favorite way to hunt, but it works if they are not watering after dark. For Coues I like the first 2-3 weeks of January during the peak of the rut, the late december rifle hunts are over and if you find the does the bucks will be there, but it makes it tougher to get in close.
