firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted September 18, 2017 I would really be curious to find out if all these camps they give broke into our by other Hunters or local meth heads that know it's hunting season. I would assume the latter but God only knows!
eagle#eyes Report post Posted September 18, 2017 We need to start putting trail cameras up around camp and maybe get a tag number. I always put a trail cam at camp and turn it on when I'm gone. Ever had anything show up on your cam? Human or animal?

dse Report post Posted September 18, 2017 Very sad. Sorry to hear that this happened. We all worry about the border units. Man – some people suck! I would worry far less in the border units than any northern unit. I've seen more stuff stolen in the 5's, 6's, & 7's than anywhere else.

Had an older guy snooping around last yr on my deer hunt after I told him I was going back to town for the night.

goinhuntn Report post Posted September 18, 2017 Man that sucks!! My dad always leaves his key in his ranger & doors on his truck unlocked at nite when were sleeping. I tell him thieves don't give a shoot so lock it up & don't leave the keys in!!
elkaholic Report post Posted September 18, 2017 one can bet money and get good odds that it probably isn't the thieves first time - nor will it be the last EVERYONE knows it elk season in the northwoods especially for people who live in the towns nearby - they've been seeing trucks and trailer s jam packed with gear going by everyday for weeks! most home town thieves know every campsite around and its easy to just drive by -any ole time to get the layout and what trucks/vehicles should be there. It's not rocket science to steal the farther off the main drag the better /easier pickins - so to speak Sorry all the stuff was stolen- the idea of a camp sitter isn't such a bad idea - some use family or friends who just like to hang out . to bad a person couldn't get the money die stuff like in the movies have several basg with the die in it- they open - boom blue paint all over them
Explorer Report post Posted September 18, 2017 I have been using trail cameras in camp the last few seasons. Thieves are the worst. I hope they get what they deserve.

azhuntnut Report post Posted September 19, 2017 I think its the vagrants that are living around the forest. I have been seeing more and more each year hunting around the Flagstaff area and they are there for weeks at a time and the forest service does nothing about it unless you call them. They have ruined an area that used to be amazing for elk, now in the last two weekends I havent heard or seen an elk in the area. My trailer is out in the forest now, but I dont leave anything of value in it while im gone. Heck, I will probably get a ticket for leaving it out, while they pass 10 vagrant camps on the way in. grey curse Report post Posted September 19, 2017 I'm all about bait trailers. If law inforcement won't do it maybe the next time I don't have a tag for elk I'll just hunt thieves.

MT_Sourdough Report post Posted September 19, 2017 Last year, I found a mule deer skull/antlers from a lion kill. It had nice sized antlers and I hung it on a tree next to my tent. My camera caught two side by sides come into camp (about 40 yards off road) and one of the guys got out and took the skull/antlers from the tree. I was glad that was all they took. I knew I was being a bit tempting by leaving it on the tree. Cameras on camp is a good idea. Place one (or more) of them in an area to likely get licence plate. Your thief is a local addict. I'd bet money on it.
