oz31p Report post Posted September 14, 2017 Welfare recipients get bison meat for free is all I read. Did you actually read the article? It states: "The meat will be distributed to the state, volunteers who participate, food banks and Indian tribes." Here's another story that says details are still being worked-out. I suppose until things are final, it's all just 'stories & articles' anyway.... http://www.guns.com/2017/09/13/national-park-service-looking-for-hunters-to-thin-bison-herd-in-grand-canyon/ Different articles word it differently likely due to the fact the final plan has not been made
300RUM Report post Posted September 17, 2017 And the "hunt" doesn't begin until the road to the North Rim closes. In other words, they'll be "hunting" during possible heavy snow pack. One article I read is that they'll be utilizing snow mobiles and walking to get around. So, possible non hunting volunteers with no experience, heavy snowpack, 1,400 lb carcass. Yeah sounds like a great plan. <Sarcasm> I've been up there for spring turkey hunts walking on the snowpack broke through and sunk in up to my armpits. I'm 6'3". We should film this hunt as a reality TV show and make a fortune
