300RUM Report post Posted September 5, 2017 I passed this little guy and he was munching on a pile of harvested plants at the entrance of his den. I was surprised he did not react when I passed by. I came back about 45 min later and he was still there but out of food. He started squeaking. It appeared he had a birth defect either not having eyes or not being able to open them. Apparently his buddies do grocery runs for him. As my arrival had scared them away I went grocery shopping for him.

300RUM Report post Posted September 6, 2017 What the heck is that That is a good question. My best guess is a Golden-Mantled Ground Squirrel that has birth defects. The body was about the correct size and build but eyes and ears are missing. The cold coloring on the head was partially there and there were very faint signs of the striping on the side and back of the body. It is amazing he is surviving. It seems like other squirrels help him out.
brademan76 Report post Posted September 11, 2017 Looks healthy. Maybe he's the 'Jabba the Hutt' of the ground squirrel world.
