Millhouse Report post Posted August 31, 2017 Lived in AZ all my life, but this will be only my second time traveling to the Eager area. Last time I went from Payson. This time I'll be coming from Peoria. Planning on leaving tomorrow afternoon and figure I'll hit traffic any way I go. Anyways, what's the best route? Through Payson or Globe? Undecided at this time if we will be hauling the camp trailer. Advice? Thanks!
Non-Typical Solutions Report post Posted August 31, 2017 Gotta weigh the odds...is it easier for you to get to the BeeLine HWY or trek on the 202 over to the 60??? My wife hates Salt River Canyon, my son who lives in Gilbert prefers to go through the Salt River Canyon......Payson route always gets the vote in our family!!!(wife)
brademan76 Report post Posted August 31, 2017 Payson route. Can't imagine heading that way this weekend. Good luck to you.
GreyGhost85 Report post Posted August 31, 2017 I travel there a LOT. Through payson will be an absolute zoo this weekend. Go through globe and the salt river canyon. It's always faster. I've done the trip from the valley to eagar hundreds of times.
Edge Report post Posted August 31, 2017 Leaving in the afternoon on Friday I'd be watching the traffic alerts and closures but 101 to Shea probably best. Love yourself and get out of Scottsdale before the cougars hit the 101 between 3-4.
jim Report post Posted August 31, 2017 Either one on Friday afternoon of a 3 day weekend will suck. The canyon can be better but not if there's a lot of travel trailers and semis.

Hoss50 Report post Posted August 31, 2017 I would say flip a coin, but when you are in Springerville/Eager make sure to stop at Avery's. Get some good BBQ and a brew. If you talk to Lance, tell him Harley says hello.

AZ8 Report post Posted September 1, 2017 The stop light in Payson will backup for miles tomorrow night. Yup! It'll be backed up past the casino. To the OP: I'd advise you to leave as early as possible. Good luck.
Lv2hnt Report post Posted September 1, 2017 The Saturday morning right before this past July 4th, the hwy into Payson was backed up way before the casino just about to where it curves to the east. LEAVE EARLY if you're going that way!!!
