bigorange Report post Posted August 22, 2017 Looking at rifles for my daughter (Ruger 6.5 creedmor at top of list currently) and looking for a budget scope to put on it...the bundle I found comes with vortex crossfire scope but I'd like to get a little better scope without breaking the bank. Very happy with other vortex optics so was planning to go that route. I know you get what you pay for and should spend more on the scope than the rifle, but any experience with Diamondback vs Diamondback HP compared to Crossfire? Not wanting to put $500 more into a scope for the rifle...not yet at least.
dmoto Report post Posted August 22, 2017 What about a used Viper? I recently picked one up off of this forum for a very good price to put onto a 6.5 Browning X-Bolt I scored off of Gun Broker.

STOMP442 Report post Posted August 22, 2017 Natchezss has great deals on scopes all the time that would be much better options than a cheap craptex. They are currently promoting Nikon Monarch 5s 3-15s for $319. That's decent glass at a great price with all the features you would need for a young hunter. It has the advanced BDC for hold overs and also good reliable turrets if you wanted to go that route with just as good of a warranty as a vortex. https://www.natchezss.com/nikon-monarch-5-rifle-scope-3-15x42mm-ed-sf-advanced-bdc-reticle.html
Big Browns Report post Posted August 22, 2017 Another option is the new Bushnell Creedmoor scope. It has a BDC reticle and turrets. Retails for only $219. If your not going to shoot at long distances this might be a good scope to try.
Hoss50 Report post Posted August 22, 2017 For what it is worth, I compared the Redfield Revolutions to the Diamondback side by side and the Redfield was much more clear at the edges and seemed better overall. I also like their BDC reticle better. This was not the new Diamondback HP though so I don't know about that. I personally really like the Redfield Revolution as a budget scope. If you are willing to spend a little more you may be able to get better, but that is a great bang for the buck option. I have over 600 rounds downrange with the one on my 257 Weatherby with ZERO issue. I have a total of 4 of the Redfield revolutions in a mix of 3x9 and 4x12 models. Several buddies have them, and they have all performed very well. I little step up might get you into a Leupold with CDS though, which would be nice so you can dial for range instead of hold over. Hoss50 Report post Posted August 23, 2017 Sportsman's had the Savage Axis on sale for $299, and I think it had another $50 mail in rebate to boot. Might be a good deal for you too rifle wise if you don't already have 1 purchased.
archeryaz Report post Posted August 23, 2017 I would definitely look into the used optic. You can pick up a great used Vortex. They have the no hassle warranty so if there is a problem you can send it in for repair with no issues. I think the Ruger is a great choice. Are you going to be looking at the 6.5 creedmoor? I think this is an awesome rifle. My friend just bought one and is getting 5/8 moa out of the box. Good luck.
AZ Wildcat Report post Posted August 23, 2017 I was an early fan of Vortex, and I still love their binos. But IMO their riflescopes have become overpriced pretty much across the line. I think there are better options in your price range...my preferences would be something from Leupold or Nikon but I'm sure there are other good options as well.
