300RUM Report post Posted August 16, 2017 I will be heading up to Forest Lakes for archery season to spend some time with my parents and do some hunting and fishing. I have, or had, some favorite hunting spots by Long Tom. Can anyone tell me how bad the area burnt?
AzDiamondHeat Report post Posted August 16, 2017 You will hardly notice it, at least the areas I went to. Mostly was underbrush. Some of the "hidden" good spots are exposed now though.
300RUM Report post Posted August 17, 2017 I appreciate the input. I remember going back to 1 and 27 after the Wallow Fire and all my favorite spots look like a nuclear blast zone.
AzDiamondHeat Report post Posted August 17, 2017 Unless the rains wiped everything out, it looked pretty good when I was there. We went up right before all the rains started (the day they lifted the fire ban) and drove many trails. Definitely a lot of damage and bulldozer work, but not anything like some of the big fires. To me it looked just like the slim jim fire from last year on the other side of the ridge. Lots of underbrush and garbage burned up and the roads torn up and big piles of debris. we're headed back up there too next week to get ready for archery deer and then the wife's elk hunt. 300RUM Report post Posted August 18, 2017 I will be up there all of opening week. Your wife have bull or cow? I would be happy to keep track of where I encounter elk while I am there and get the information to you if you are interested.
