hunter07 Report post Posted November 15, 2007 I have an up coming Elk hunt, and im all set and confident in my Weatherby 300 mag cartridges. But heres where my problems arise, my dad asked me to pick him up a box of shells. So i got to thinking, Whats the best brand to try out for this elk hunt remington corelock, Wincesters? theres alot of choices out there. Do any of you have a prefered pick. By the way he will be shooting his trusty ol 30-06. that might be important. And I asked him what he wanted and he threw it all back on me.
Red Rabbit Report post Posted November 15, 2007 What has he been using and did they shooot well? Might consider Federals with the 165 TSX, 180 Partition or Bear Claw. Don't be shocked at ammo prices as metal prices have drastically increased. Only a week before elk season to get it sighted in. Good luck on your hunts. ac guy Report post Posted November 16, 2007 Wish I could tell you, but that's up to the gun. It's odd, because my 1885 high wall likes the el-cheapo Federals better than any other store bought brand. I'd buy three different brands in the same weight and see which groups the best. Alternative is to buy one brand and get lucky or buy one brand, it doesn't shoot worth a darn, and you're going back and forth from the range to the store. Glad I now reload. ruffcountry Report post Posted November 16, 2007 In my 300 wby I use wby brand. My wifes '06 has definite preference for hornady light magnum 165 gr. btsp . Hornady also offers a 180 gr btsp light magnum load for 30-06 . They are not cheap but you might give em a try .
