bchoitz Report post Posted November 14, 2007 Last week I drove through Tucson south on I-10 to reach I-19. What a mess! It took nearly 40 minutes to get through the construction in Downtown Tucson at 8:00 AM. I will be heading down for my son's Junior hunt on thursday and was wondering if the locals can suggest a quicker way through town? Should I get off in Marana ans go south through the west side of Saguaro National Park? Would I need to pay an entrance fee if I did? Or should I get off on cortaro and take Silverbell Road through town? It will be mid-day on Thursday when I go through town, and my ultimate destination is unit 36A for the Jr deer hunt. Thanks, Bret C
azpackhorse Report post Posted November 14, 2007 If you will be hunting off of Sasabe Rd. then exiting Avra Valley road then taking Sandario Rd. to Ajo Rd. is your best option. Mid day should not be as bad as 8am on I-10...........unless there is an accident then you're screwed. The distance and time is about the same going down Sandario Rd. Good luck on the hunt! bchoitz Report post Posted November 15, 2007 Thanks, for the info, I was planning to drop by the ADA camp off the Arivaca Rd on Betamonte Rd before heading in to a camping area. Still don't know which of the options my son want to exercise for the first day or two. I'm leaning toward the hills north of Martinez well off the Las Guijas road, but want to let him choose from several sites we have looked at. Most are accessed easier from the Arivaca road, so I'm looking to meet I-19 south of Tucson. Bret C.
azcouesandelk Report post Posted November 15, 2007 Honestly I have gone through it back and forth for 3 weekends and it isn't all that bad. The traffic flowed smoothly through and you can cruise 55.
Diamondbackaz Report post Posted November 15, 2007 I go through it all the time and never had a problem. Rush hour times sometimes goes slower.
kwp Report post Posted November 15, 2007 If you are coming through mid-day then you shouldn't have any slowing. Like others have said it is really only slow during rush hour. During the rest of the day I think that the volume of cars is actually lower than it used to be because a lot of people avoid it. You should be able to cruise right through. bchoitz Report post Posted November 15, 2007 OK, Thanks, I'll take I-10 through. It just seemed bad last weekend at 8:15 AM when it slowed to one lane for work on one of the overpass, I think it was at Speedway. Must have just been bad timing. I'm off in an hour or so, after I pull Curtis from School! His first deer hunt! I can't wait! Bret C

cjw2222 Report post Posted November 19, 2007 I go to U of A but live in phoenix and have to go up there every other weekend to scout for my December coues hunt and its hardly ever bad. During big weekends it gets bad but otherwise it seems manageable. projected finish date: 2011
