SpotNStalk Report post Posted July 29, 2017 Need to purchase and have water heater (gas) installed asap. It's leaking in my garage. Was dealing with my home warranty but before I did something stupid, I decided it was best to try and find someone that could do the work and pay for it myself . Thanks 6232175770

PRDATR Report post Posted July 29, 2017 It's not a big deal but here in Mesa you need to pull a permit.

AZbowhntr Report post Posted July 29, 2017 And don't forget the catch pan. I get to write them up all the time. If it is inside or against a common wall it needs one.
AzPlumber Report post Posted July 29, 2017 Most cities require a permit for water heater installations, most installer don't pull a permit. However, there are a few things that have to be done properly to avoid future issues. Gas The platform/stand must be the proper height and structurally sound. Depending on new heater it may need non-combustible material on on top. The flue pipe must be installed properly and using the proper materials The gas supply must be in good condition, no leaks and proper valve and flex line. High/low combustible/make up air vents of proper size and location. Electric Electrical connections must be performed properly with proper materials All T&P line must be installed properly with proper materials. Hot & cold connections to heater must be made with proper materials (dielectric) A drip pan can be a good idea in certain situations but can also cause issues. Note: Most of these won't be an issue in newer homes but can be in older homes.
