Ditching TV?

Recommended Posts

I have HD antenna, Kodi on Firestick, Netflix, Prime and Hulu. I pay $7.99 / mo for everything (i don't factor Prime into this price because i would have prime regardless and for netflix i use my folks' sign in). For football I bought the game pass for $99 for the whole season. I hated paying $100+ mo for Directv. Ripoff

I am not a lawyer. That being said I believe the app Kodi itself is not illegal. However people "sharing" content on Kodi might be braking copyright laws in the same way napster and limewire etc break copyright laws.

I know about 8 guys from work who use Kodi. 6 have had a flawless experience. The other 2 have had their bank accounts hacked through crooks fishing through the app. In other words my tail of caution is to research how to set Kodi up and make sure you know what you are downloading through the app before downloading.

The only thing I miss not having Directv, is not having NFL Sunday ticket. I'm an NFL football junkie. Having 12-16 gamed at my finger tips was awesome.

We had our TV disconnected a few months ago and now just stream netflix and Hulu. The only thing I miss is the local sports and I don't think HD antennas work in remote area's. I despise all the adds on network television, they should be paying us to watch that crap. The services that stream live TV seem to cost as much as the cable and satellite companies that you are trying to avoid. Best advice....ditch all of it and go huntin :)

I am about to drop DirectTV. I am also interested in options. All I need to get is Dbacks games, Cardinals games, and a few hunting shows like Western Hunter and Meat Eater, which is on Netflix now. Oh yeah...I still watch Seinfeld at night, even though I've seen each episode 8 times.

When you say all local games that's for all major sports? Suns, dbacks & cards?

We dumped cable TV a while back. I sometimes miss it but not $100 a month worth. We're on the roku now and most of what we watch is on Netflix. I do miss flipping channels and coming across a good college baseball game.

I'm a little like muledeerarea33. I haven't had a cable bill ever. It's not that I can't afford it, it's the idea of another monthly bill I don't like. I'm not a cheap bastard, just don't like paying bills. 20 years on my own and never a cable bill. I have phone and data with the company I work for or otherwise I wouldn't have data.

interesting topic, thanks to those that have shared how they watch TV without traditional satellite or cable. I have been thinking of the same, but love the NFL Sunday ticket... plus where i live the internet is not that fast (yet) I use Comcast (used to use Centrylink).

Yes she is. She and her group of dealer friends are leaving Thursday I think.

I hate this satellite bill, don't feel like I'm getting much bang for my buck. I can catch football and news by antenna but there's no high speed internet out here and I love the programs on the History Channel. So what options do I have if any?

Pulled the plug several years ago...sports (especially college football and basketball) was the biggest gap for me and went through a few less than legal methods to get access until we found Sling. ESPN, SEC, and PAC12 on there gets me everything I need. Plus a few other channels we enjoy. I think there's a few kids channels on there too. Plus Netflix, Hulu, and HD antenna. Runs about $45 a month plus internet.
