3rd Times A Charm

Recommended Posts

100_1565.jpg Well , after 3 years of hunting I was able to bag a wiley coues buck . I saw lots of other hunters , some illegals , whitetail and mule deer doe and yearlings , and lots of good looking country but in 5 hard days of hunting this is the only buck I seen . I did not hesitate to take him . He is not as large as some of yours' but I am very proud and I can look forward to trying to better him next year .

It was a pretty tough hunt , what with the heat and the moon but yall know that , already . I hiked about 5 miles from nearest road and was glassing deer but no bucks . I climbed a ridge above a waterhole wth lots of tracks around it and began creeping along looking for deer . There was lots of sign and my spirits were high. I glassed several high valleys and then threw rocks down them before moving on . The next drainage was a nice shady one and shortly after I began glassing I spotted a bedded deer looking up at me , it was a buck and my brain screamed " shoot that S. O. D. " (son of a doe) , as I put down my binoculars and picked up my rifle the buck and a couple other deer got up and began to move . I steadied my rifle and when he stopped to look back , he made his last mistake . The 150 grain slug from my 300 wthby hit him high on the side in the middle of his back and traveled down thru the vitals to a stop under the skin of his neck/chest . It missed the backstraps and went between the shoulders , very little meat was ruined by the bullet . It was 3:30 pm when I shot him and it was 7:00 pm when I staggered up to my truck and took of my pack . Man , if that illegal had only come down that trail a couple hours later he could of had his first american job .100_1560.jpg100_1538.jpg

Way to go and stick with it. Thats a fine buck and good story. Were you in 30A because I've seen some bucks in there with almost the same G1s? Congratulations on filling your tag.
