Jimmer Negamanee Report post Posted July 5, 2017 It is my understanding that the Defensive Driving Program (DDP) is a diversion program where 1 civil charge (usually a moving violation which carries points) can get dismissed if you successfully complete the class. (Just remember that sometimes there are multiple civil traffic charges on a single ticket but only 1 charge can be dismissed for DDP.) You can attend DDP no more than once every 12 months (date of violation to date of violation). CDL holders are not eligible for DDP even if in their personal, non-commercial vehicle when the violation occurred. If the ticket is for running a red light (28-645A3A) a finding of responsible carries 2 points and a fine PLUS mandatory Traffic Survival School (TSS). If TSS is not completed, MVD can suspend your license. So, despite the DDP cost being about the same as the ticket, to get that a red light violation charge dismissed by DDP is a big deal because you avoid the TSS assignment. Finally, I don't know how an insurance company would know that you had a ticket dismissed for DDP because it wouldn't show up on your MVD record. I'm not saying they won't know. I'm just saying I don't know how they would know. (But there's lots of stuff I don't know. : ) Good luck!
PRDATR Report post Posted July 6, 2017 I have not had a ticket in more than a decade. I did not fully stop at a light and a state trooper got me. I fully understand that I am in the wrong 100% but no warning, stern talking to or nothing. Any recommendations on traffic school? I looked online and it runs $220+! I haven't been pulled over in 30 years. My daughter just did the course online and told me there were hidden costs that nearly tripled the advertised price. Still better than surrendering your Saturday to sit in a class all day only to have some buffoon raise his hand every 15 minutes to ask a question or tell a story.. That's called entertainment. wildwoody Report post Posted July 6, 2017 Usually run from the cost of your ticket to $50 less, they all got the memo, and I don't believe it raises your rates at least not mine, traffic school can forgive a civil ticket ounce every two yrs, I believe, not a lawyer
naturebob Report post Posted July 6, 2017 The Dicks ought to give a warning for that. I got one in N. Dakota one block from my house where no one has come to a full stop in the 3 years I lived there. In an Industrial area ,no one could get hurt, a state boy saw me a block away and did a u turn. and laughed about it. I wanted to tell him shut up and go do your real job and bust some of the drug pushers that sold drugs to My kid, not ticket to a 58 year old was just about at a stop. I let him be.I guess thats his priority. Or He didn't get laid that day. I don't hate Cops I just hate the petty shoot they do and not spend 100% on the real problems. PS. I don't speed and obay all traffic laws as I have a cdl and hadn't had a ticket in 20+ years.........BOB!
