processors or vultures

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Got a nice mule deer up in area 7 north of Flagstaff. I took it to Rhonda's butcher shop up there. Usually I do it myself, but for the first time I was swayed by the glossy brochure and the thought of not having to work. It was froze solid hanging ou the first night and no meat was ruined by heat or tainted.

Anyways, when I picked it up it was mysteriously missing the ribs, backstraps and a lot of weight. My wife had told Rhonda how she wanted it cut, so she called her to straighten it out. (I was really too p/o'd to call) I've killed enough deer to know this was a rip.

After a lot of world class shuckin' and jivin' she was basically told "thats what you get." One of the thing she told my wife was that the ribs were too shot up. That is funny because It was a one shot kill 4" below the backbone right on the shoulder, with no exit wound. It just shredded the lungs and he dropped about 15 feet away. I didn't see any damage except for a 30 caliber hole going in. What a crock.

I really have no recourse I guess but to let people know what happened to me. It really stinks to have vultures like Rhonda's take your deer meet. Not to mention the fact that my memories of a really neat deer hunt are screwed up by those thieves. Hope they reap the harvest of what they've sown.

Well, thanks for listening.

Bill

I took my antelope to Casey's in Flag and got way more meat that I thought I would. That was a pleasant surprise.

I haven't heard too many good things about the place you took yours to, but I won't elaborate because I just heard it 2nd hand.

I'm sorry for your misshap. I'm sure it was likely the exception and not the rule at that place. They do have quite the enticing brochure don't they.

I have never used Rondas so I realy cant say.

However I will say that I always use Casey's! I take ALL my clients to Casey's when I can and I have never had a problem. I am not afraid to send anyone there so next time tell Casey that Lance sent you!

PS, lets see a picture of that U 7 buck!

Casey Rocks.

Whenever I am in that neck of the woods I take it to em.

Sorry to hear about your expierience with that other outfit. You probably are going to get a bunch of responses leaning towards doing it youself and with what happened to you it makes sense.

My advice is to use places such as Casey's and Denmark's (for ALL of your sausages/brats/pepper sticks and Chorizo)

or do it yourself.

Yeah, I keep hearing about Casey's from friends I've told about this. Also have heard some more stuff about Rhonda's. I'll just butcher it myself from now on.

Like I said, the meat is one thing, but now the memory of the hunt is trashed. What really sucks is that we are even having to talk about this. People that do things like that are really beneath contempt. What a bummer.

It was $69 bucks per deer. Also it was cash only, no checks or debit. If I could have stopped the check or disputed the debit some how I would have done it. All I can do now is shed a little light under their rock.

Sorry to hear you had that problem, but thanks for sharing, as I will make sure to avoid the place. Caseys did a fine job with my mule deer this year.

Thanks for the info. My kids have the Junior anterless Kaibab hunt this weekend, and I got that nice brochure, I was thinking of using Rhonda's, if my kids were successful. Hey Lance I'll tell him you sent us, what's his phone number and address?

I used Casey's for the first time this year and am kickin' myself in the butt for not doing so earlier! He cut up that "wrongway" bull and I was certain it wouldn't be that good, but the client gave us the meat and I had to get it taken care of. That bull is EXCELLENT and Casey did an awesome, professional job on cutting and wrapping and I have yet to open a package without being happy with how it looked and tasted! I have also heard about and tasted that Jalepeno and cheese sausage......It was from an old Ram and it was outstanding......couldn't imagine how it would be with a fat ol' Coues!!!! I will send all my clients there without hesitation....great people too ;)

Personally I think that makes a big difference most of the good processors that I have dealt with change by the pound cut and wrapped... That way it is in there best interest to give you as much of your meat back as possible...
