Ruger SR1911 10mm?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone picked one up yet? Thoughts, reviews?

I have been really wanting a 1911 in 10mm for a hunting sidearm. Until recently you had a choice of a Rock Island or the next step up was Kimber. Trust me, I love my Kimber's but at over $1000 I am really considering this ruger at a more budget friendly price.

I have three 1911s, two of which are kimbers. I was also looking for a 10mm for a hunting sidearm, the weight of the 1911 in 10mm is a lot, when compared to a polymer one. I ended up going with a Glock 20, double the capacity and weights a lot less, if your in the market for a 10mm give the G20 a feel. It honestly has quickly became one of my favorite pistols. Some people hate glocks, and you might not like them as well, but I still love them.

I have learned and shot 1911 style pistols my whole life. Trying to point a glock isn't natural to me. I dont hate glocks, bt I can't point them so I don't own them.

I actually went down to buy a glock 19 for a carry pistol at one point, but my buddy at the gun shop talked me out of it. I knew he was right, but I like the reliability of the glock. I left with a Sig P250. I was very happy with my choice. I now shoot a Sig 2022 as my carry gun and my Kimber .38 super is my hunting sidearm.

My dad and I both own Kimber's and love them, but the extra $300-400 for the kimber over the Ruger has me leaning towards the Ruger.

A lot of people share they same feelings. IMO $750ish for the ruger or $900ish for the kimber, I would pick the kimber every single time. That being said I've never picked up a SR1911, but I'm more than confident it wouldn't change my decision. I wish SIG would release a 1911 in 10mm

I have no doubt the SR is a good gun for the money. But at that price point it must be missing something when compared to other manufacturers. The same goes for the RIA, it's a great 10mm option for less than $600. The slide fitment isn't as tight, and sure the quality isn't top notch. The quality of a kimber isn't in same realm when compared to the RIA, but it's still a nice little setup. I have higher end kimbers, and owner some cheaper ones and the quality is way better then my sig 1911, and I love my sig. But the RIA is a good gun for $600 or less, the SR is probably a great gun in the $750 price range. With that being said I have more than that invested in my G20, but my decision was made on the weight savings, and the SR wasn't even around. But I would be upset if on scratched or damaged a kimber on a hunting trip. I wouldn't feel that bad if a RIA bounced off the rocks, and long as it still functioned I would still carry it.

I have never personal held an RIA but with it at $600 and the new Ruger at $750, the RIA is out of the running. American made in AZ with presumably better parts, steel, and hopefully workers makes the a Ruger a no brainer of a choice as the minimum gun to consider.

The kimber is about $980 for the cheaper option. I know that option is a very good choice too based on my past experience. I am not afraid to scratch a $1000 pistol if I know it is my hunting pistol. I will try not too, but stuff happens in the woods sometimes.

I have a $20k truck with AZ pinstripe.

I have a kimber 1911, and 2 rugers. I cat really make a fair comparision, as the Rugers are bone stock, and the kimber isnt. I have won a couple tanks worth of gas from "friendly, I can hit that before you can" bets with buddies with my Kimber.

Here is Sig's 10 mm.

I am also considering a 10mm sidearm while hunting. I was thinking about this Sig, but as was already said, I like the capacity and weight of the Glock and will probably go that direction. From what I have researched it is a good idea to swap the barrel and recoil spring if you intend to shoot the heavy loads like Buffalo Bore or others.

That kimber is used and $30 worth of diesel to go get. That isn't horrible, but it isn't a great deal either being used. If I am up in Prescott soon and they have it maybe I will offer them $800 and see if they bite.

The Sig steel frame guns don't fit my hand as well as a 1911 or the Sig composite frame guns. I love Sig pistols, but he only ones that really feel good in my hand are the composite frames.

Sorry for the confusion, I thought it was new, I would one buy online with no sales tax and free shipping. Some people aren't comfortable with that idea though.
