223VARMINTER Report post Posted June 24, 2017 Just spent 10 days in AK and got to fish a couple of days. Caught some Sockeye on the Russian River and some really nice 18" to 21" Rainbows and some Dolly Vardens on the Kenai River. It was an awesome trip and we are already planning to go back.
stanley Report post Posted June 24, 2017 Very cool! Did you go DIY? Family or friends up there?? I'm in the early stages of researching a trip up there. Hoping to take my two college age sons in the next year or two. Thinking of a week or so starting in Anchorage, renting a car and then just kind of exploring along Kenai Penninsula or something. Your pics have me inspired!! Thanks for sharing! S.

Your pics have me inspired!! Thanks for sharing! S. We did the same thing. Flew to Anchorage and rented a car. Was on the peninsula for 10 days. We didn't know anybody up there. Rented cabins in Healy (Denali), Seward, Soldotna and Homer. Hired a fishing guide for 2 days while in Soldotna as I wanted to make sure we caught fish. The entire trip was awesome. I would probably not do Denali next time but it was good to see the area once. We did see tons of animals while doing the bus tour in Denali Park. We saw a mother grizzly and her two cubs feeding on a caribou kill, a herd of 200 caribou, many moose, several other grizzlies, and about a dozen Dall Sheep. I would still do a fishing guide next time since they know the area and have all the gear. I would also like to try halibut fishing out of Ninilchik or Homer and maybe try for King salmon on the Anchor River.
SunDevil Report post Posted June 25, 2017 Nice! I spent many days growing up on the banks of the Russian river. It was one of my families favorite places to fish.
