34A, Need advice

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone....I know that e-scouting is frowned upon but I am using my last resort. I normally hunt unit 33 (16 years) but got drawn for 34A this year as my second choice. I have been all over the unit in the past week (Josephine Canyone, Wood Canyon, Gardner Canyon) and have seen very few deer. I am asking for a little advice on other areas that might be useful. I would normally have used the August/September archery hunt to do my scouting but I had a daughter born on August 11th that had heart surgery on August 17th at UMC. We were in the NICU for 6 weeks and that took up all of the scouting time and vacation time that I had at work. My daughter is doing great now and has no long term issues.

If you are willing to provide any information it would be greatly appreciated and returned with any information on unit 33 that you may desire. I am interested to know if any deer are on the northern edge of the unit specifically in areas such as Mt. Fagan as it seems very much like the Redington Pass area in 33. All of the research I have done with the G&F department has not indicated that there are.

Please PM if you can.....thanks everyone.

Thanks...I spent a lot of time in the Gardner Canyon area and it is just way too thick to really glass anywhere. Also....ther is not much elevation change...seems like the hills and canyons are all the same size so you really cannot see very far. I'm also worried about the access as alot of the area is private property or at least it was posted as such.

Sounds like you are interested with hunting the east and north sides. While I haven't hunted either I have hunted a little on the west side in the range just north of the entrance to Madera Canyon. Not much access but you can or at least could walk in. Good luck on your hunt. :)
