Got a present in the mail today.

New barrel, with no work done to it yet, like cut and thread tenon, chamber, cut end off, thread and crown barrel, I already lost over 1lb. My Shilen Match @ 28" weighs around 4lbs 3oz.

A lot of you might remember my poll thread asking for preference between a 6.5-06AI or a .280AI. This should give a hint to my final decision.

It will be finished at 26" plus a brake. I am going with a Hawkins 3 port brake.

Proof "Sendero Light" contour

LRI did the bolt flute. Super fast turnaround. I sent it USPS Priority, and got it back completed in 6 days.

Back to shipping gun parts? It doesn't sound like there was any drama this time.

I have a very similar barrel blank sitting on my workbench. I decided to give Proof a try rather than go with spiral fluted steel. My parents just moved so my father and I had to load up and move our shop machinery. Having that blank in my hands and the lathe currently out of operation is the definition of stress.

Right on! What action?

R700 LA BDL previously trued, newer TI firing pin, newer Wolff Blitzschnell spring, LRI bolt fluting, plans for stubby tac knob maybe.

Manners EH1 stock in Black Forest

Shilen trigger at 1.5#

Rem BDL bottom metal

Proof 26" Sendero Light 1:9" twist

Hawkins 3 port brake (very similar to a Badger Thruster, but can be turned down as small as .750", so .800" will blend with barrel contour)

Cerakote all metal in Armor Black

Seekins alloy 20MOA Picatinny

Seekins alloy 30mm "low" rings

Premier Heritage Light Tactical 3-15×50 w. Gen 2XR reticle

Plans to shoot a 168 HVLD or maybe 162 ELD-X.

The second rifle upgrade will gain me some speed in a 6.5mm bullet. Hopefully 250-300fps with the same 140 HVLD.

Rechamber a #3 Bartlein with about 350 rounds down the pipe of 140 HVLD @ 2850fps. .260 Rem to 6.5 SS. (Dies and brass are ready to ship)

Spiral flute the barrel.

Add an APA Micro Bast. brake and contour to barrel.

Open bolt face diameter from .473" to .534".

Flute bolt

Cerakote in probably Coyote Tan.

R700 SA BDL w. Oberndorf bottom metal previously trued w. M16 extractor and tac knob

PT&G recoil lug

Bartlein #3 1:8" @ 26" right now

McMillan Game Scout (I think w. Edge fill)

Timney 512 at 1.5#

Badger 20MOA Picatinny

Seekins alloy 34mm low rings

S&B PMII DT 5-25×56 w. H2CMR

Mid weight deer/pronghorn riflle @ 10lbs 6oz.

Hoping to push the 140 Berger HVLD @ 3150+/-.

They both sound awesome. If you haven't already, check out trigger tech triggers. I tried one in my new 6.5 and It feels quite a bit better than both my shilens. Crazy smooth break and super fast reset. Can't wait to see your progress on these.

Always love to see your new builds Lance! Ive really been thinking about putting a proof barrel on my 280ai. I never want to take it hunting because it's so heavy! What did you pick the barrel up for? And are you going to have PCR do all the work?
