Dirt Nap Report post Posted June 14, 2017 Does it help me or hurt me putting in for the draw on deer and elk with non-residents friends? I've been putting in with 2 non-residents for awhile now with no success. I think we are all up to 5 bonus points. Are my chances better not putting in together and going solo? Hatchet Jack Report post Posted June 14, 2017 I believe it throws you into the non res pool. So it hurts you quite a bit with the non res tag allocation being so limited.
Flatlander Report post Posted June 14, 2017 It doesn't throw you into the NR pool but they are still subject to it and if they are not drawn neither are you. It hurts you, a lot on hunts that are very difficult at all to draw. Way better off on your own.
StickFlicker Report post Posted June 16, 2017 No more than 10% of the permits can go to non-residents on any given hunt. That leaves at least 90% for residents. If you all have the same amount of points each (in this case it appears you each have 5), once 10% of the permits have been issued to NR's your entire group is no longer eligible to draw a permit while they continue to allow residents to draw until all 100% have been issued. You do the math. The only time applying with a NR MIGHT help you is if they have a lot more points than you, and preferably the average of all of the group's points will still need to be at or above the max points in most of the better hunts to get drawn. rossislider Report post Posted June 16, 2017 Yeah, don't do that again. Offer to go with if they draw, but you are WAY better off not putting in with non-residents. Depending on what it is you are putting in for, you might have already drawn.
