Zeke-BE Report post Posted May 31, 2017 Looking into putting 2 rim fire Nikon 150 scopes on my kids 2 Savage rascal rifle. Even going to put on the bi-pod on for them. My daughters got a couple of years before she's 10 and my son about 5 years out. But want them getting used to firing guns with scopes and how to use them. So My question is the Nikon 150 rim fire worth the extra 80 dollars compared to a Nikon pro staff 3-9x32 scope? I read and watched reviews that they are set up at 50 yards and then the BDC is at 75, 100, and then 150 yards.
lancetkenyon Report post Posted June 1, 2017 To be honest, you need to actually go and look through the scopes. I had a hard time finding a scope, even on 3x, that would focus closer than 30 yards. And we all know how close you need a .22 scope to focus sometimes. Think cans, squirrels and cottontails. I ended up spending $300 on a Zeiss Terra 3 3-9x42 for it's lightweight and close focus ability. About 25 yards on 3x. Almost every other 2-8 or 3-9 with no parallax adjustment could come close. And clarity was leaps and bounds better than anything else in the $100-250 price range. Not cheap, but I just put 2 SWFA 3-15x42 SFP w. Gen 2 Mil-Quad reticles on my two 10/22s. I know, I know, overkill/obsessive/optical snobbish. But I really love the 6m minimum focus/parallax on a rimfire scope. I can sharply focus 8' away on 3x, and on 15x, I can focus as close as 20-22 yards. I got them from SWFA (of course) on sale over the Memorial weekend. They come in MOA or two different MIL configurations/reticles. They also have a FFP version, but not in the same price range. I didn't think I needed FFP in a .22 scope though, so I went SFP MIL/MIL. MIL version that I purchased https://swfa.com/catalog/product/view/id/114921/ MOA version https://swfa.com/catalog/product/view/id/121204/ Most people will think I am insane, I agree. My only vice is guns/optics/hunting/fishing/trucks/etc.

300RUM Report post Posted June 1, 2017 I have a Weaver 40/44 3-9x40 on my 10-22. It has a multi dot BDC reticle. I am happy with it. Should be about a $150 scope. Might be another option for you to look at
Big or Bust Report post Posted June 1, 2017 Try the 3-9 SWFA Lance if you haven't.... HD glass, better eyebox, etc... Super duper scope... I've got one hobby too. Killing stuff and the gear that gets it done....Grin...

Big or Bust Report post Posted June 1, 2017 I'm confused.... I was referring to the 3-9 SWFA, not the Zeiss. Or I'm very slow....Grin..
300RUM Report post Posted June 1, 2017 Sent you a PM with the code for an Optics Planet coupon I got in the mail but won't be using. My guess is the code will work for you if you enter it. Either save a few bucks or get the kids something a little nicer.

Red Rabbit Report post Posted June 1, 2017 I had a $100 Cabelas brand 22 rimfire scope but the wire crosshairs broke within 100 shots from my 10/22. I picked up a Tract Optics 22 scope but have only sighted it in. You might also look at air rifle scopes with an adjustable parallax. https://www.tractoptics.com/products/riflescopes?type=47
PRDATR Report post Posted June 2, 2017 I have heard that scopes for 22's have the parallax set to 50 yards where standard rifle scopes are set to 100 yards.
300RUM Report post Posted June 2, 2017 I have heard that scopes for 22's have the parallax set to 50 yards where standard rifle scopes are set to 100 yards. Yes, 50 yard parallax is common in scopes intended for rimfire and also shotgun scopes for slug guns.
