Some UPS Counter Employees Suck

Recommended Posts

From the UPS site

UPS accepts firearm parts for shipment, provided the part is not a "firearm" as defined under federal law; the contents of the package cannot be assembled to form a firearm; and the package otherwise complies with federal, state, and local law. (Note: Receivers or frames of a firearm and firearm mufflers/silencers (also referred to as suppressors) are considered "firearms" and are accepted for transportation only if shipped in accordance with UPS's requirements for shipping firearms.)

UPS accepts packages containing firearms (as defined by Title 18, Chapter 44, and Title 26, Chapter 53 of the United States Code) for transportation only (a) between licensed importers, licensed manufacturers, licensed dealers, and licensed collectors (as defined in Title 18, Chapter 44 of the United States Code), and government agencies and ( where not otherwise prohibited by federal, state or local law (i) from an individual to a licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, licensed dealer, or licensed collector; and (ii) from a licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, licensed dealer, or licensed collector to an individual.

A call to her supervisor about her anti-gun agenda that does not comply with UPS policy might be in order.

I showed her this exact excerpt from the UPS website on shipping guns and gun parts.

Sounds like you need to go back with a laptop and play Ron White doing the "You can't fix stupid" routine, just for her.

I guess I might be the outlier here, I've had nothing but absolutely great success with USPS. UPS on the other hand have been responsible for a broken wooden thumb hole stock and a broken Zeiss scope. Luckily both were fixed under UPS insurance policy without any issues.

I used USPS to ship bullets. I had to argue with three ladies that BULLETS ARE NOT LIVE AMMUNITION!!!! Finally got someone with a brain and was able to ship! The bullet/ammo argument is just like the clip/magazine argument. Meaning there's no argument if you know what your talking about!

I have worked in the freight industry for 30 years and have rarely had to decline to handle a shipment. Items I have transported vary from The radioactive waste from Williams AFB, the computers that control reactor 3 at Palo Verde, down to pop tarts and diapers. It is generally fairly simple to follow the policy of the company you work for and laws that apply to any specific items being transported with the exception of HM regulations which are somewhat complicated. All you really need to get through it is the ability to read and some common sense. For many the later seems to be a controlled substance and they do not have a prescription.

This is fair warning that I will be taking creative license with that common sense comment.

Its not UPS, its one person's lack of knowledge, aka incompetence- you'll find them in any line of work.

I realize it was that one branch full of incompetent idiots who cannot comprehend written directions. I am honestly betting they are lefty anti-gun treehugging morons and do not hold UPS responsible. I have actually had very good luck with UPS, and the two delivery drivers that service my house are top notch. Always offer them a drink when I am home and they show up.

Changing the title now...

Its true.. I was in Leslies pool supply this weekend and one of the employees was trying to sell this man like 100 dollars worth of chemicals that she claimed "prevented water evaporation "

Could probably accomplish that with a couple gallons of vegetable oil.

That makes me think of an album. Maybe a distant relative?

The problem is in the contract between UPS and The UPS Store. The UPS store is a franchise and separate from the shipping giant UPS. The contract between the 2 says the store cannot accept for shipping a fire arm or a firearm component. The franchisee doesnot want to lose his store or investment so is always conservative in what they accept to ship. Those they tell employees not to take gun related items such as a scope.

Yes you can ship gun items via UPS, but not through The Store. It's not a 2 way street.

When I owned my UPS Store (5years ago) I would ship a scope, or other machines parts but not a receiver. I was more lenient that other stores. It was a gray area.

I would accept for drop off boxes that were obviously fire arms. I could tell based on the shape of the box. Those were being shipped on someone else's account.

Some of the justification for these restrictions was accountability. If someone dropped off a firearm and it was stolen who stole it? Driver, in the warehouse or store employee or somewhere else?

Add to that trying to teach a store employee ATF laws and it gets dicey for a $10 retail employee.

Best to box your item tell them it's a telescope or what ever and ship item. Be sure to insure it.

Not trying to defend anyone just explain how it is.

I tried to have a shipment held at the UPS location in Albq. so I could pick it up. Couldn't do it on the web site or by phone so my wall tent was delivered to my house when I was on the way to the NRA Whittington Center on Thursday and I just got home today.
