trail cameras are pretty cool. the anticipation to check them is unbearable though I can't leave one be longer than 3 days

I drove down to check one the other day, my key wouldn't unlock it. I tried for a while, nothing. I guess I'm going to have to cut it down

Trphyhunter, You got alot a balls saying any thing about this. You are probly the most contraversial dude on here. and you allways say what You want.So don't give Me no crap . Some of You so called self professionals can't take a little crap. Its all in fun . I allready basically apoligized in my 2nd post and some of You guys are still crying. That why I only read this site for 10 years before I started posting.To many little Groupies that think they are the best.Now I see Why Tony left. I don't know the story ,but it whould be easy to get pissed off at the whiners on here. I'm not and could care less. Everyone has there way to hunt. Us older F--ks just do it the way Your Dad and Granpa did thats all. And I understand You all too. I have 3 kids ,34, 27 and 24. And guess what? They know it all too. The younger generation doesn't care about nothing but themselves and thats why this country is in trouble. As far as Me I will stay here ,no need to run away.You Guys hunt your way ,I will hunt mine and we all can post Pics.I will be happy for You if Yours is bigger. Someday You Guys will understand there are more Important things in life than bragging about the size of Antlers. Happy Hunting all. And I am sober. Just got done driving to LA. and back.I don't need a drink to tell the truth..LOL Hope You all get the deer tag You want too. See. I am a nice Guy.......BOB!

Cams have no doubt been responsible for many big animals being taken that wouldnt have been taken without them. Anyone that runs cams and actually harvests their animal with the aid of them knows this. If your being honest with yourself this is a fact. I believe cams have reduced in general, the average hunters ability in the field from what his or her ability would have been without them. I know from personal experience that it has dumbed down my own personal ability. Even though about 70 percent of our 110 plus bucks in the family (20 of them) where found and harvested without any cams involvement, the other 30 percent came from cams and their help. I find myself thinking i'm behind the 8 ball if i'm not running them, which is kinda sad. I love cams , and i dislike them at the same time. The newer generation is missing out on what us older guys experienced before cams existed. Doesnt mean their any less skilled, just means the skills being used are diff than the skills relied on before cams. Hunting has become a "reality tv" type show now. You can get huge by answering the phone now and using another persons info to catapult yourself into the lime light(super cheesy and i would say totally dishonest). You can be a hero in the sport and never have killed anything yourself that you actually found yourself. You can have a huge name in hunting and actually not know how to hunt more than a clown on the street corner these days. It blows my mind just how ignorant the average guy is out there and just how easy it is to trick the average guy out there into thinking you actually know something about hunting in the least. My point being cams are down the list of whats ruining hunting these days. if some of the absolute clowns out there were revealed for just how little they know about how to hunt in reality, all of us would be embarrassed for ourselves. Like it or not we've entered the black hole in hunting and cams are at the entrance of that black hole. I trully believe we are at the point of where i could make up a fictitious person and b.s and dog and pony most people into believing that not only the person exists but that he's worth listening to or even worshiped. Like em or hate em cams are way down the list of whats ruining hunting.

I have wondered often about points you bring up and I agree 100% with you.

There was a time living out in the middle of nowhere New Mexico that I thought I knew how to "hunt'!

Buy an over the counter tag when deer season rolled around and go to the hills where we "knew" there had to be deer! Try to walk around really calm and quiet with the hopes of jumping up a buck and having the opportunity for a clear shot. But if we didn't get a shot my brother was just over the next ridge and maybe if we were lucky that buck might go over there!

No 4 wheeler.....ok sometimes a mule......

No trail cam.....

 

And low and behold who had ever heard of pre-season scouting???

Pre season scouting was asking the rancher for permission to hunt on his spread and how did the deer population look!!!

 

After moving from the middle of nowhere and realizing that "hunting" was way more than what I had ever imagined I realized that I really wasn't much of a hunter after all compared to what the rest of the hunting community was doing! I was just walking around in the hills with a gun, tag and a prayer that I just might be lucky enough to find a buck and get at least one good shot!

 

I remember when graduating from open sights to a gun that actually had a scope on it was pretty steep upgrade for my neck of the woods and it was not allowed to make that graduation step until it was proven I could accurately shoot open sights!!!

 

Lots of things changed and like couesmagnet said.....trail cams for me have influenced where I have hunted but I have never personally benefited from what was on my camera and what I wrapped my tag around!

 

I enjoy trail cams because everybody in my family can enjoy, nobody needs a tag and my wife is all in venturing out with me which is a bonus!!!
