8x42 Bino opinions

Just recently bought some 15x56 slc hds, and I'm looking into some 8x42 to carry around my neck and for close scanning. I'm looking for a mid to low range pair for now, $400 tops. I've had vipers in 12x and I liked them,didn't love them but I can get new 8x for $350. I've thought about some cabelas intensity too,but that would be a total shot in the dark. Didn't like the zeiss terra. Any other suggestions in my price range? Must be tripod mountable as well. no, i can't save for swaros this year. Good warranty is a huge plus. Thanks in advance!

I have not looked through these personally as I still use the Leica Duovids

I have some Nikon monarch 7's in 8x42 and they were the best glass I looked through in that price range. I spent big money on my 15's also and tries to save a little on the pair I wear around my neck.

I would get the Cabela's Intensity HD 10x42. If you don't like them they have a pretty good return policy. I prefer 10x over 8x and the ones I use are pretty light to carry. Thinking about trying these out.

I just ordered a set and should be here Tues/Wed. of next week. The 10x42's I have are Swift but I don't remember the model number. They have been really clear, waterproof and fog proof. They also didn't cost an arm and a leg so my daughters have bounced them around as I have. With my younger daughter starting to hunt I wanted to get her a decent set, better than the typical run of the mill glass you find at local stores, so I ordered her a set of the Cabela's.

 

With my Swifts they carry easily and seem to be just about right for still hunting or looking across a canyon if I need to quickly. I really like the size of them and the FOV is, if I remember correctly, somewhere around 340 feet at 1000 yards so it is pretty easy to lock onto something close and not be pin holing your vision.

Yeah I might try some 8x42 intensity, seems like a low risk buy. From what I've read, they should at least be better then diamondbacks

My Swifts are no longer made or I would tell you to get a set. I have the Swift Horizon Model 920 so it seems like the Cabela's are comparable for size and weight. I have had the Swift's for over 10 years and think I paid $75 new. I did a lot of research before buying them so I will let you know when mine get here and how they look.

Anyone Have any experience with the Athlon optics? I've been thinking of getting a pair of the Monarch 10x42's or the Athlon Ares 10x42's

not sure why everyone ignores Leupold, they've had a lifetime warranty for many years on good products that are made here in the USA.

I agree Slim. I have a pair of the Mojave's that I picked up on sale for less than $200 at Cabela's a few years ago. Great glass at that price point.
