My opening day buck

Recommended Posts

Well I was lucky enough to fill my tag again this year with a buck I'm proud of :D . I was hunting with my dad, uncle, aunt and grandpa. We all had a blast. On Friday My uncle glassed a deer about 1000 yards away laying in the shade. We got the spotting scope on him and could tell he was big enough for a closer look. We were looking right into the setting sun. I closed the gap to 400 yards and started building my rest. I got nestled in a pile of rocks and pack, and set up the rifle. About that time a second deer stood up and gave me a good look. I could tell he was too big for me to pass up. I was looking straight into the sun, enough so that my 4 inch sunshade didn't help a bit. I held my flip up scope cover down, parallel with the barrel to get a good sight picture. I squeezed the trigger. The deer dropped in its tracks. This is the third deer shot with accubonds and i am throughly impressed. It hit just behind the shoulder. The exit was about 3/4 inch. It didn't ruin any more meat than deer I've shot with a .243. I only snapped a few pics. I was by myself, and it was getting dark. The next morning my cousin spotted the two deer that were with mine a few hundred yards from where they were when i shot. My dad and I took off to get closer. We lost the deer in a brushy cut. We moved to a better location to glass from to find them. We glassed from when we lost them at 9 until 430 in the afternoon. The whities won that day. They gave us the slip, we never saw them again :( . Here are the few pics i took before packing him out. He was a very big bodied coues, with a great looking cape. I couldn't be happier

No it was a different unit. I wanted something a little closer to home. I also wanted a break from hunting way down south. Thanks for the kind words guys.
