HuntHarder Report post Posted March 25, 2017 How many of you have you supplied comments on the new guidelines? Specifically deer? Reason I ask is wms have to go by the guidelines in recommending tags. You're all complaining about tag numbers but have done nothing to change what they manage for. I say specifically deer because we don't hunt does south of the canyon. If the guideline is to have 40:100 bucks and there are 50:100 they have to issue more tags. But then again it's easier to complain on the Web. Since when has the Commission listened to any of us? How many meetings have you attended?
Northern Pintail Report post Posted March 25, 2017 More than I can count. It took 8 points to guarantee a 3c deer tag last year and they listened to us on wanting it to be managed different.
bonecollector777 Report post Posted March 25, 2017 I'm surprised they kept 3A/3C mule deer at 100 Tags !!! Do any of you know what the bonus pass For this hunt is ? Just curious what you thought they should do with it? I think 100 is good for 3c. Last year 8 guaranteed it. My brother was one of the lucky ones with 7 to draw in the bonus pass. Problem with 3c right now is tons of deer but the buck numbers aren't keeping up with doe numbers. Hopefully keeping it at 100 for a couple years will let more bucks grow up and help Balance the buck to doe ratio.

We were basically told to sit down and shut up. I
firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted March 25, 2017 Sure wish they'd cut tags in the lower units! The 36's are looking pretty dismal for mature deer, or so I've noticed over the past 3-5 years.

TOBY Report post Posted March 27, 2017 Whats with the new late 20c hunt? Dec 8-14th? Thats odd. It is a baby step. They took out the rut junior hunt and put a pre rut general hunt instead. Also moved the starting dates of the other general hunts much later as well. Baby steps for a ruined unit.......
ThomC Report post Posted March 27, 2017 The commissioners are volunteers appointed by a select group of people. The gigantic bureaucracy in carefree controls the G&F. The commission rubber stamps what the bureaucrats want. The bcrats want money, a office to hide in, a big title, and lots of low paid peons to do their bidding. The low low paid Wildlife managers start the process with what they see as proper numbers for their units. Then the bean counters and bcrats change them to make sure their money comes in and their special interests are met. It is a convoluted process designed to take a long time and be so confusing that no one on the commission or you hunters can possibly understand it or would want to take the time to understand it. I think that the Wildlife Managers should be paid alot more money and be given the respect that they are due. They are on the ground and have the proper training to decide what is best for their unit. Many many bcrats in carefree should be eliminated. The only thing needed in carefree are support services for the Regions. And the support services should learn that their job is to support the people in the Regions that actually know about Wildlife Management. The support services should when answering the phone from the Regions say "What can I help you with". And never say "You cant do that or we have never done that or I will have to ask so and so and they are in a meeting or out of town". If you hunters want more control and fair hunt numbers then you will have to get the commission to gut the bureaucracy in carefree. Good luck.
