Meopta vs. Swarovski

Recommended Posts

This post has me thinking! I will be buying a spotting scope in next 2 months. With out being able to try every spotting scope out on 7 day hunting trip to determine best choice . I have $1500.00 ready to go when tax return shows up . Is Vortex a strong runner up ? I truly know I won't be packing it around , my 15x56 will be in my pack all times . I want to use the spotting scope for long range shooting to . Help me narrow down and get the best for 1500 . Hunters will give best reviews.

I HIGHLY recommend the meopta S2. I feel it's the best bang for your buck!

We need to go out and compare these some upcoming weekend. I have the new Vortex Razor 85 and would like to see how it compares side by side to some of these others in the actual outdoors.

Maybe we should schedule a Saturday early morning out our way at the base of some mountain range like the San Tans where everyone interested brings their optics and we line them all up side by side and give everyone who comes a chance to look through them and see what they think. Could be a fun little CWT get together.

Rossislider what's your thoughts on Vortex Gen 2 ?

Big brown , do you know where to get a good price on Meopta ?

I like it a lot. Unfortunately, I have never had anything other than my binos to set it up side by side with to get a comparison. Previous to this I had the Vortex Viper 65 and it certainly blows that away. I am very happy with it and would probably would only consider upgrading to a Swaro spotter. But since I can't justify $4000-$6000, I don't see that happening.

I have nothing of value to add in participation but I would LOVE to see this. I have never been an optics guy, but I am getting there.

Way I see it myself, is this spotting scope will be sitting around a lot and used for long distance close up peeks . I hear and see spotting scopes going up for sale . Having 1500 to 2000 dollars waiting for call of duty . My 15x56 get a work out all year . Maybe that's why hunters pull the trigger on Vortex for price to try , but resale cheaper later .

I don't want to spend over 1500 , but will go 500 more for very big difference

I paid 1600 for a 20-60x65 swaro hd spotter. I stuck with 65 so I wouldn't have an excuse not to carry it. 1500 is a good budget

As long as I'm not scouting for my brothers hunt that weekend I could bring a Swarovski ats 80 non-hd and hopefully my cabelas euro if it's here by then.

If you're not against buying used keep an eye out for the cabelas instinct euro hd and the nightforce ts-82. They are both the same meopta s2 spotter just rebranded. I found the cabelas branded version for 1400 on ebay.

I love my cabelas Euros (made from Meopta I believe). Right there with Swaros! I bought a Athlon Cronus 4.5-29x56 scope and the glass is top tier! I needed a 8x binos as well and the glass on my scope was so nice I took a leap of faith with the 8x. Well those Cronus 8x are right there ( i would say equal) with my Cabelas Euros. So look into the Athlon Cronus spotting scope I think its 1400-1500. Athlon is keeping prices down to get their foot in the door with the big wigs. If its truly about money right now look into the Cronus. But as Lance and Big Browns have said those Meopta look fantastic.

Adam (Big Browns) and I talked about making it happen this weekend. Unfortunately we ran into issues/commitments with both Saturday and Sunday (Easter weekend) that we weren't able to work out. We were hoping for the weekend because turkey hunts will start the following and by the time those wrap up, it will probably be 110 degrees at 5:00 AM. We'll see if we can figure something out before it turns into a furnace.

Any suggestions?

My Spotter came in today. Pretty happy so far except I didn't realize with the cabelas variant the eyepiece is not removable. Oh well for the price I paid I'm not too concerned. I weighed them and my old scale shows the cabelas is just barely heavier than the swaro, not even really noticeable.
