bwp22 Report post Posted March 20, 2017 Random question. In order to apply for a youth big game tag, do kids have to be 10 at the application deadline or turn 10 before the hunt starts? I can't find this in the regs. Thanks in advance.
rossislider Report post Posted March 20, 2017 10 on the first day of the hunt. A few years back my friend's boy was turning 10 on day 3 of the hunt. We here hoping he could just start hunting on day 3, but it wasn't allowed. So we applied for a later hunt. If I recall correctly, the online application would not allow him to put in for any hunt where we wasn't 10 on or before the opening day.

I got it backwards recently in planning for my son turning 10 in December. Youth have to be 10 on the day the hunt starts in order to apply for the hunt. I certainly don't like it, but I don't see it ever changing.
bwp22 Report post Posted March 20, 2017 Thank you both. That is actually the answer I was hoping for. My son will turn 10 in late June next year. Obviously after both the elk and deer application deadlines, but before the seasons start.

Obviously after both the elk and deer application deadlines, but before the seasons start. So you can still put him in for all hunts! Congrats! My son and I are going to start working with our bows again soon so I can get him that OTC metro pig down down south and head out after he turns 10 at Christmas this year. I don't care if we get one or not, I just want to get him the experience. Then he'll (hopefully) have the youth javelina tag for January 2018!
bwp22 Report post Posted March 21, 2017 That sounds like lots of fun! Not sure how far south you are planning, but there are always a ton of leftover archery javelina tags for 36a,b,c. They are good for almost the whole month of January.

I love the 36s, but they are too far for us for a weekend with us being up here in Flagstaff.
