Desert_Angler Report post Posted March 14, 2017 Thanks for the replies! I shoot from the shore (no boat) so I need the fish chasing each other within a few yards of the bank. In my experience, this behavior is only done for a short window of time in the spawning process. Believe it or not, one reason why common carp are so widely distributed across the US and world is that they were initially brought to places as a food fish. Even today they are eaten by a lot of Asians and Eastern Europeans. But, if you were to just take a freshly caught carp and cooked it on the grill like a trout or bass, you're gonna have a bad time. As jfowler99 pointed out, if you cut off the dark meat, soak the fillets in a brine, and then smoke it. It comes out pretty tasty. However, because of their feeding habits, they can often be under a fish consumption advisories for excessive levels of heavy metals, PCBs, etc. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Camofreak Report post Posted March 17, 2017 We were seeing them! A few on top next to shore, we saw them during the day and at night. It's getting there. oz31p Report post Posted March 27, 2017 camofreak, any activity at Pleasant?i was out over night on the 25th the carp were in the shallows but a lot of the northern coves are still alittle too murky. Saw some nice cats and some huge bass. Also saw a ton of what I think were gizzard shad. They look just like threadfin shad but some were over a foot long. Camofreak Report post Posted March 28, 2017 I was out on the 24th, water was starting to look better in the northern coves, could see deeper at night than the week before, but it was absolutely horrible, called it a night early, weren't seeing anything.
