WTB Cheap Rifle

Recommended Posts

I honestly only own a 22lr and never have owned any rifle capable of killing anything of size would like to buy a cheap rifle that I can use to hunt Elk, Bear, Deer and Coyote doesn't need to be anything fancy and really can only spend in the $300 range. Let me know if you have anything.

thanks Blake

How about a synthetic stock Savage with Accutrigger in 30-06?

May be your best option. 30-06 is my elk caliber. Caveat on that, I like to get close.

Can find some older Wood stocked savage 110 sometimes with optics for 3 bills, cheap optics of course..

So many pkg deals now on guns like savage and marlin save a little more and look into them

30-96 is a good all around cartridge. Have you shot a gun bigger than a 22 before? Are you able to practice at a range or have a place to practice? Many calibers would do you good but the 06, 270, 7rem mag, or 300win mag are popular and will do all you want.

Try and find an old sporterized mauser or enfield. A cheap used savage would be a decent choice too.

Some good suggestions here. But I'd recommend setting your money aside and adding a few bucks a month for a year or so until you can get something a little bit better. You can start getting into some pretty good factory rifles in the $500-$600 range (Tikka T3, Savage, Weatherby Vanguard). I see some of these rifles in here on occasion in the $400-$500 range. I definitely think it would be worth waiting a bit. Next time you are in a rifle shop try sliding the action open and closed on a budget level rifle versus one of those I mentioned and you will notice a big difference right off the bat on the action alone.

if you watch the sales dicks sporting goods has sales on savage axis. I got mine with scope for 299 then had a $50 mail in rebate. scopes not that great but will get you by and still do very good to start out. that's what I did. then upgraded my trigger and scope when funds came available

Solid point here. I love my old Smith & Wesson 1500 rifles they are SMOOOOTH and Howa/Weatherby same.. And these guns shoot right out of the box. I also own tikka and love them and way lighter weight than the howa weatberby. If big cal the weight is kinda nice though.
