PatrickJr Report post Posted March 6, 2017 After killing a pig with my 45 Colt revolver, i wanted to kill a pig with a lever gun. My dad signed his general tag over to me and let me use his open sight Winchester 1894 in 45 Colt. On Saturday, Some friends would be along with us because their niece had a tag. We ended up getting her set up on a pig that had bedded. While that pig was bedded, some of the herd went over the hill. Knowing we were set up 130 yards from the pigs, I wasn't going to get an ethical shot with my open sight rifle. So I left them to sit on that pig while I went after the herd that left. I ended up chasing pigs all over the countryside for an hour and a half, and multiple herds as well. Finally got in close and killed this big boar at 6 yards! For those who have not met me, I'm a pretty big dude (6'), but this pig makes me look like I'm small. Two open sight 45 Colt pigs for this year, highly recommend doing these types of hunts. Keeps pig hunting fun and interesting, also forces you to become a better shot!

Hoss50 Report post Posted March 7, 2017 Nice, congrats on a nice pig with a cool rifle. The closest I have been to a javalina is about 10 feet, He walked right by and never knew I was there. I didn't have a pig tag though, only a deer tag.
BeardownAZ Report post Posted March 7, 2017 Awesome! I love to see these open sight hunts. Agreed with what you said about forcing it to be fun and interesting. Doesn't seem as fun to hunt them with long range scoped rifles. Keeps it more challenging with open sights or pistols.
