Recommended Posts

Do any of you have any nifty ways to mount your binocs and spotting scope on a tripod at the same time?

thanks,

Rob

Outdoorsmans has a mount that will do this, but at close to $300 it seems an expensive way to do it... I have no personal experience with the adaptor, have only seen it online...

Friend of mine just bought one. Too expensive for me, but I am excited to try it and will give a field report after the first hunt.

Sportsmans warehouse sells a Leica adaptor, has the rubber hinge that comes over the top, I can put my binos and spotting scope on at the same time, works pretty good.

Looks pretty nice. I was thinking of something along those lines. Can you line up the scope and binos pretty well? Have you used it in the field yet? If so, how do you like it?

yeah it lines up pretty good, i took a cheap little ball head for the spotting scope side so if i knock it outta alignment i can quickly line'm back up, all parts are bogen quick disconnects and fit into each others mount so you can do any configuration you want. the only downside it that its not the lightest setup in the world

El pepe, how stable is your set-up as far as having added weight on your tripod? I am thinking that I want to do something similar to your idea but just my spotter mounted on my manfrotto tripod already is a little shaky because of the length and weight plus I would obviously be adding my Swaro 10x50's to that. Also , how well does it pan up and down with the added weight? Looks like you used a peice of plate steal for your mount, is there anything that you would change about this set-up if you could? Like maybe a different material for your base, like aluminum? Thanks for the inspiration, I will let you know what I come up with!

i put the whole mix on a bogen tripod with a really sturdy bogen head so stability isnt a prob, the weight isnt great tho :( but this was just a rought draft, on my second go im gonna go with aluminum. (i originally wanted alum but the metal shop was closed when i got off work) i used bogen quick disconnect mounts and plates so if i wanted to just mount my binos or scope i could, or the plate assembly. i also used a little slik ball head on the spotting scope setup so if i ever knock'em outta alignment i can quickly get them goin again. if you got any more questions shoot me a line.

some of the QR mount i found, if you look a lil bit you prob could findem cheaper

post-2240-1202356639_thumb.jpgThanks for the idea El Pepe. This is the second one that I made, it is 1/4" aluminum plate and works pretty well. The first one that I made was 1/8" aluminum plate but was a little too flexible and made the glasses shake ever so slightly(enough to make me build another out of 1/4" instead). Can't wait to really get it out in the field to try it out!post-2240-1202356567_thumb.jpg
