Red Sparky Report post Posted February 27, 2017 Sucks to read this when I put in for and hunt the area around Reserve and it is hard to find them when I have a tag. Let alone these guys. http://www.wildlife.state.nm.us/case-poached-coues-whitetail-deer-solved/

Red Sparky Report post Posted February 28, 2017 Yeah but you know how the court system goes. Glad they had to pay a fine and lose the deer. They might have lost 3 years of hunting privileges as well. I personally ran into two guys hunting about three years ago ( the 2014 season) and we got to talking. I asked if they were hunting mulies or whitetails. They responded "deer". I said "yes but what species?" They responded the ones with antlers. So I had to explain to them most of NM is a FAD (fork antlered deer) but this unit you have to decide coues whitetail or mule deer when you get the tag. They pulled out the leftover tags they bought and found out they were hunting mule deer on whitetail tags. Luckily they had not shot at anything yet.
CatfishKev Report post Posted March 5, 2017 Why were no tags wrapped around the antlers? Does NM have you guys put them on the legs?
hunter4life Report post Posted March 6, 2017 In NM the tag is actually a carcass tag. Doesn't go on the antlers, but many people put it there.
