I have jsut sat here and read through this thread and can help but chuckle just a bit. Personally I shoot a .300 WSM and thats just because i like the gun, however, i have shot deer with a .25-06, 22-250, .308, .30-06, .300 WSM and many others that i havent mentioned and i have come to one basic conclusion, if you know your limits, the limits of the gun, have fairly decent marksmanship skills, have taken the time to zero your rifle for the ranges you may encounter, are willing to wait and take a GOOD minimal risk shot and know your shooting ability limits, you too can be successful. Its entertaining to sit and read everyone's opinion knowing full well that no 2 people will agree. There is talk of velocities, knock down power, this bullet that bullet, and to think for a majority of my hunting life i have shot factory ammo in a bullet weight proportional to the game being saught using the cheapest optics around, wearing blue jeans and a dark shirt, smokin like a train, and i cannot think of but one deer hunt that i was not successful and that was only because my wifes grandmother passed away on teh first day and we had to leave to go to a funeral. Now the older i have gotten i will admit i have started wearing camo, upgraded my optics and such but to be honest everything else has remained the same. Find what works for you and get after it and dont buy into someone else's hype.

I again with some and disagree with others. I myself still shoot the first rifle that was all mine!! Sure I have had it rebarreled but after over 30 years what can i say. oh by the way it is a Remington 721 300 H&H with a leupold 10X fixed power scope also over 30 years old. I shoot 168gr Berger vlds.
