Sneaker Report post Posted February 16, 2017 Looks like helicopters is the method of choice to kill off the hogs in the refuge:
brademan76 Report post Posted February 16, 2017 Wish they would use the same method on the burros in the rest of the state.
Sneaker Report post Posted February 16, 2017 Yeah I could not help but wonder why they can see and react to Pig problems so simply but have a different reaction to the Burro problems just up the hill... Burros are more cuddly I suppose, and have some federal protections of some sort.

Burros are horse lovers horses and pigs are just pigs.......seems like they really could have let some hunters have some pig fun and go in there and help take care of the problem......wonder what the reasoning is behind not opening it up??? GreyGhost85 Report post Posted February 16, 2017 They could have a sort of draw and charge people for permits. I'm sure a lot of people would line up and pay $20 or so to hunt them, but no. They will spend $100k on helicopter eradication instead of making a little coin.
Non-Typical Solutions Report post Posted February 16, 2017 Received this survey in the mail yesterday....lots of interesting questions but many dealing with "feral" hogs.........hard to tell what the overall emphasis is on but alot of weird questions like Should animals have rights like the rights of humans??? AzPlumber Report post Posted February 16, 2017 If we can't hunt them at least let one of us be the gunner, I volunteer.
300RUM Report post Posted February 17, 2017 Last I knew AZGFD did not regulate hunting them because they were feral domestic animals. If the land management agency or property owner gave you the OK you could hunt them, no tag needed. This was at least 6 years ago so things may have changed. My partner and I grabbed leftover turkey tags in 13B, got our birds, then went looking for some of these pigs that are up there. We didn't find them but you could sure tell where they had been. DesertBull Report post Posted February 17, 2017 So the pigs will be gunned down but Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi get to live. Dont seem right
metau Report post Posted February 17, 2017 Easiest way to resolve this would be to pressure the commission to amend Commission Order 14 to allow the take other Birds and Mammals on Wildlife Refuges.
Heat Report post Posted February 17, 2017 What a rip off! Better kill every single sow and piglet or they are just wasting gas and ammo.
Hoss50 Report post Posted February 18, 2017 They are going to reduce the population, but not get rid of it. There is no way they get rid of them without a long drawn out fight with lots of people on the ground and in the air. If they would just sell some tags for $20 each, or better yet just open the area to pig hunting only, they would make/save money and control the herd at the same time. DesertBull Report post Posted February 18, 2017 Some genius at the USFWS will probably suggest trapping a Jaguar and letting loose in the marsh.
Phil Carr Report post Posted February 18, 2017 I am hoping to win a contract to bring in Mexican Wolves. I think I could bring in and monitor 2 pairs for about 1.4 mil. Per year. In 5 years I hope to get them up to 3 pairs and stabilize the pig population.
