COA Report post Posted February 8, 2017 Breaks my heart to give up my lab. Im in a tight spot the current situation My daughter developed an allergy to her that put her in the er 3 times. Needless to say The pup has been with grandma ever since. My mom recently retired and she is doing the rv thing for the rest of the year. I have a couple close friends that can take her but she is not an outside dog and she will let you know it. Both friends have outside dogs. No go. Shes a great dog doesnt bark shes a little overweight,has allergies herself and she cant hear anymore. She loves people more than dogs if you have a dog she wont not get along with them but she would prefer to be with the kids or adults. She was a great bird dog i almost died pulling her from the river when she lost a downed bird in the tulies and refused to come back without the bird. It was at first light in the dead of winter in the rain! Had to strip down and go pull her and the bird out in my boxers. A second story that stands out the most (i have many) she was raised with a pitbull so she had some serious tug of war skills. One day at the dog park we were playing fetch in the water area with out her pit bull sidekick and two pit bulls from two seperate owners (they looked like gang members) arrived later and both pits would wait for her at the shore line and would attack her when she was bringing back the ball she would drop the ball and the two pitbulls would bite her and pull her ears as she ran back to me without the ball. This continued for 3 more fetches and the two different pitbull owners would laugh. My dog was a little scared but her will to fetch she wasnt going to stop. They werent correcting there dogs behavior so On the 4th fetch i gave her the command to "shake it up" this was a cue she learned when olaying with her pitbull at home amd it meant to play tug of war and shake her head like a shark thrashing its prey. It was the only way should could beat the pit bull at home at tug of war. When she was bringing me the ball on the 4th throw into the lake he two pit bulls were waiting for her. As she approached the shore line i told her to "shake it up" the first pit went to bite her once again and she lit this pit bull up. The second one got in on it and my yellow lab worked both of these pits Over. The owners and the pits left immediatly they didnt think it was so funny that there little monsters got a lesson from a yellow lab that they wont soon forget! They didnt even acknoledge me but I was so proud of her. I could create a laundry list of how great she is/was but the hard truth is she doesnt have much time left but i dont want tonmake the call to the vet because she is an inconevwnience or because she is 15 years young. She still thinks shes a puppy and we dont have the heart to tell her otherwise. If i am missing an option here please advise we are im gilbert. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

mattys281 Report post Posted February 8, 2017 I would think that with the age and high likely hood of medical expenses, you may have a hard time placing her. muledeerarea33? Report post Posted February 10, 2017 I hate hearing these stories. My wife wants to start a rescue but I have no idea how to get it going. We have 4 dogs already or else I'd take her in a second if I could. Find a way to keep her if you can. Build her a shed outside? Perfect reloading room when she's gone. Shots for your kid?
