To answer someone's earlier question about whether it trickles up, those who were above minimum wage expect to make the same amount higher than minimum as they were. However, I am telling them they need to sit tight. I had 85,000 payroll hours last year, and I dont think I can even come close to offsetting the additional payroll required this year. And this is just the first year's increase, within 3 more it will be another $2.00 higher per hour. We will be THE HIGHEST minimum wage state in the nation by next year, surpassing California and Washington. The end result will be less purchasing power for the very people who voted it in, and significantly less purchasing power for the middle class. Big Browns Report post Posted January 23, 2017 Another question is, when the bottom gets a raise does it trickle up? NOPE!!!!! Now we are making wages a little closer to minimum wage. We will eventually see all companies in Az raise their prices due to minimum wage even if it really didn't hurt them. If most the companies are raising their pricees why wouldn't all of them do it. If there is a buck to be made you can bet they are going to do it. I'm really not sure how to feel about it. I don't blame anyone for trying to better themselves and make more money. How about these folks better themselves with more education or a skill that betters them and makes them more money? CatfishKev Report post Posted January 24, 2017 When you consider all the kids workin the counters at McDonalds and grocery stores etc you know a great deal of the, will end up losing there jobs. We will now see a big time spike in unemployment at the taxpayers expense. This increase will really hurt a lot of mom n pop operations, not to mention all the sneaky back door rules they snuck in on this one. Now ALL employees will be entitled to paid sick leave and it has to be calculated as you go throughout the year. This is above the average person doing there own payroll and even above most local payroll companies just to keep track of all this new crazy crap. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of fast places go to an automated ordering system like you see at quick trip. Eliminate the five kids taking orders and have just one to hand them there food.
