azryan Report post Posted October 8, 2007 I was just seeing if anybody has used or seen this tripod. http://www.swarovskioptik.com/index.php?c=...ipod%20CT%20101 I am debating between that or the Bogen carbon tripod. http://www.manfrotto.com/Jahia/site/manfro...=68&child=2 Is the Swaro tripod made by Bogen as well? firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted October 8, 2007 I believe so. I think Swaro slaps their name on it and adds $100 or what ever to the price tag.
azhuntnut Report post Posted October 8, 2007 I haven't looked at the Swaro tripod, but Cabelas has a carbon tripod now. It comes with a head, but I don't like it. It is only $200.00. David
Coues Sniper Report post Posted October 8, 2007 Is the Swaro tripod made by Bogen as well? Yes it is. I have an older Swaro tripod and it has Manfrotto all over it. The only bonus you get from getting the Swarovski is that they will service it just like their binoculars. I sent mine in because the head was acting screwy and they fixed it, cleaned it up, and added new feet, all for free. I'm not sure if they (Swarovski) charge more for the same tripod, but if they do the service may be worth it. Just FYI.
DesertBull Report post Posted October 8, 2007 Do you guys like the carbon tri-pods? I have tried two of them, both bogen's, and didn't care for either one. They are light, but I could not keep them steady in even light winds.

If you're gonna pony out big dollars for a tripod, its gotta be rock solid. Otherwise whats the difference between a spendy carbon or a cheap alloy if they are both going to be wobbly? Red Rabbit Report post Posted October 8, 2007 Has anyone used a rock bag hung from the center post, or attached to the legs like shown here? http://www.dickblick.com/zz528/05/ http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/5400...lity_Apron.html I had a small, light SLIK tripod with a plastic head (U-100?) and most of the vibration seen in the spotting scope came from the flex in the head. azryan Report post Posted October 9, 2007 Kevin K...I like the sound of them servicing the tripod...that would make it almost worth paying the extra...how did you like the tripod? was it noisy pulling the legs out? was it sturdy enough? DB...I am also curious about the sturdiness of the carbon tripods....there is supposed to be an advantage to them other then being lighter and that is it is supposed to absorb the movement from wind or what not therefore making it more sturdy...got to test it to see if thats true. The Swarovski carbon tripod msrp's at $710...the Bogen carbon tripod w/701RC2 head goes for $410 I am thinking about just getting the Bogen and then possibly putting the Jim White fluid head on to top it off...anyone use that head? Some guy the other day had a sweet little setup he had created. It was really light...he bought the Bogen carbon tripod and then bought the bogen adapter piece w/the quick release plate and put the on the tripod and then went to Ace hardware and bought a $0.79 piece to adapt his outdoorsman head to the quick release plate then welded the head to the quick release plate...it was a nice setup Red Rabbit, that seems like a good idea buying that rock bag...especially if you want your setup to be real sturdy. I also noticed on some tripod setups that a majority of the vibration or movement came from the head and not the tripod

azryan Report post Posted October 9, 2007 Holy chit!!!!! $710 for a freakin tripod! thats crazy! i still used the Velbon EFL-4a chaser from Amanda with out a problem!! well thats the MSRP price...im guessing it would be between $500 or $600 But ya thats a very steep price...thats why I was just curious if it is possibly worth it I could use my swaro points on it and get it free but the 15's are first priority
firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted October 9, 2007 Exactly, why waste the swaro points? all it is is a bogen/manftotto with the Swaro name on.

I agree....I just found out I can get the Bogen carbon tripod for $197... its kind of a no brainer now...then i have to buy a head...I will get either the Jim White fluid head or the 701RC2
Coues Sniper Report post Posted October 10, 2007 Kevin K...I like the sound of them servicing the tripod...that would make it almost worth paying the extra...how did you like the tripod? was it noisy pulling the legs out? was it sturdy enough? Sounds like you have the price thing figured out. The tripod i had that they serviced was and older regular Bogan type tripod. I don't remember if there was a price difference then as it was a gift. I do have a carbon bogan (not from Swarovski) now and i like it, but it is not as steady as the older, heavier version. The weight is the only advantage i have found. Red Rabbit, that seems like a good idea buying that rock bag...especially if you want your setup to be real sturdy. I also noticed on some tripod setups that a majority of the vibration or movement came from the head and not the tripod That is very true. If the head isn't tight, the head can move (obviously). I haven't tried the rock bag, but seems like a good idea. Sometimes if it's windy I'll actually pull down on that center piece when I'm trying to score a buck or something and that seems to work some. A rock bag would be way better of course. cpugsie Report post Posted October 11, 2007 Have a look at the Slik Carbon fiber 713 Pro. This tripod will run you $229.00 and is lighter than the Bogen and just as sturdy. I have the Slik 713 with the old Bogen 3160 fluid pan head and absolutely love it. You can find Slik at B&H photo.
