Interesting. Looked around a little. It looks like it is basically a 6.5 WSM. It has a magnum bolt face and a 2.960 COAL (short action). Claimed velocity is 3000 fps with a 140 gr bullet.

I suppose that was easier than copying it down and typing it in. Then again, for me, maybe not.

Ballistics is an interesting science. They don't mention the test barrel length but 26" is common. My 7mm-08 AI can launch a 140 gr bullet at 3000 fps from a 20" barrel. With the same bullet weight it has can achieve the same velocity with less powder because of its larger bore. The 6.5 will have a bullet BC advantage because of it's smaller bore. I would think they will end up getting a little more velocity out of the 6.5. Their 3000 fps is noted as an early test result. With all the variables how do we ever choose a chambering for our rifles? Looks like we just got another choice. I do like having choices, keeps life interesting.

What do you know. Looks like the old 6.5 Rem. Mag. (ca. 1965) without the belt.

Actually, this looks like it might be a better round. As I recall, you couldn't use 140 gr. bullets in the 6.5 RM as you had to seat them too deep (to feed from the magazine). They might have been ok if single-loaded in the Rem. 600, but most folks just used 120 gr. and seemed to do ok. At one time, I considered a 6.5 RM custom rifle using a long action, but the guys in that shop on N. Ritchey in Tucson discouraged the idea. The 6.5 and Rem. 600 was a very cool cartridge and rifle!

you mean Lawson's didn't want to think out side the box? No.... Not them!

Not sure what the problem was. Their comfort level with the 6.5 overall, and especially the mag. didn't seem too high. Years ago, when I was in high school I met Harry Lawson at a couple of AZ State Fairs. I always had an idea I would try to get one of those rifles. Of course by the time I inquired on a possible build, he had passed away, and his son, or sons, had taken over the business. I still ended up with a 6.5 (6.5x55) just not a Lawson in the mag. version. They used to have almost a cult following, but by today's standards, they seem to be more of a prestige item than a hard-core rough country medium range rifle.

With a c.o.a.l. over 2.800" this will still work better in a long action. It's like the 284 win, yeah it will work in a short action but it works best in a long one.

Most of the new stuff doesn't do anything any better than something before it. They just need something to market as the next big thing to help generate sales.

Agreed!!! I think it's great though. More choices, more rifles, more shooting, more fun. I remember when the creedmoor came out. For the first 3 years I wanted one bad. Everyone on shooting forums was saying it will disappear it's only a fab. Hornady did a great job in promoting it. I think they are in the belief it can happen again. It's funny the 6 mm Remington and Win 243 came out he same time or close to it. The Remington will beat it with velocity by 150-200 fps. But Winchester did a better job promoting it and Remington stop making it because of lack of sales.

This will be fun to see happen if someone can get their hands on it
