.270 Report post Posted September 22, 2004 my grandad once told me, "if it's wet, and fallin' outta the sky in Arizona, don't complain about". it never rains too much here. sometimes it might mess up a birthday party in the backyard or something, but rain is always a good thing in this state. learn to deal with the few times it does make a guy alter his plans a little. folks that pull out of an elk hunt over a little rain ain't hunters anyway. wait for years to get permit and the go home because it rains a little? them kinda folks probly whined when they got a pony for xmas and it had a used saddle. in 1983 it rained so much that it almost got to me. almost. still hunted every day in it. places where there was never water, were flooding. little creeks you normally could step across had so much water in em that you might have to walk a couple miles to find a way across. i had water in every case and differential on my ol' truck when it was over. the guy i was guiding shot a bull along black river, below big lake. we took a 12' aluminum boat up the next day and floated it out to crosby crossing. what a trip! that creek is usually so low the fish get sunburned in it. we did some whitewater that day! shinin' times for sure. lett'er rain. 111 Report post Posted September 22, 2004 .270 your totally right, this State needs every drop of water it can get. I happened to be in a tree stand and was getting poured on all Saturday evening. Not fun, but I did have an elk tag and there was no way I was going to stop hunting because of rain. In fact it will probably just make it better later. I had a much easier time sneaking up on the elk after the rain on Monday. Good luck archery elk hunters this weekend.
recurveman Report post Posted September 22, 2004 We were in unit 8. We have had a great time and I'm heading back up Thursday morning to see if I can't get my buddies a few more of those bulls. I just love to see them hit the ground. I have a late WT tag in unit 8 and I'm looking as hard as I can for those little critters too. But if anyone has any ideas I'm all ears. 111 Report post Posted September 22, 2004 Chad you still have tags to fill in unit 8. How many more?
recurveman Report post Posted September 22, 2004 Just two. There were 4 people who got drawn. The last two might be more of a challenge. One of the guys has no clue what so ever. The other guy has killed quite a few 320+ bulls but isn't in the greatest of health. So, it might make things a bit more interesting than I really wanted. With a little luck we can get them bulls. Time will tell. Later, recurveman

standman Report post Posted September 28, 2004 111, congrats on the bull. Hope to see some pics soon. My brother has been hunting in Unit 1 and we've been having a blast. He'll only shoot a big bull (350+) so we are still trying. Been close quite a few times but seems something always seems to go wrong. This full moon isn't helping at all. Can't keep the bulls blowing very long during daylight hours. First time we've been home all season and only here for a couple hours then we are going back at it. Just thought I would check in and see what's happening. Again congrats on everyones success. Brian
