Savage 110 trigger?

I made the mistake of trying one of the calvin elite triggers on one of Lance Kenyons rifles. Now I need to upgrade the trigger on my Savage 110 non-accutrigger. Should I do timney? Or _________?

I've got 2 semi customs with shilen triggers. I really like them. Not sure if they make them for savage.

See what happens when you play with someone else's toys? Jewel is another high end trigger to look into. You will probably find yourself discriminated against with the Savage, some manufactures simply wont have a model for it. I have Remington 700's but am left handed. While the 700 is very popular many manufactures don't make left hand models. I identified a number of quality trigger manufactures, Went through their websites and was fortunate to find a couple of good options. I have 2 Jewels and a basic model Timney. I really like the Jewel.

I own two non-accutrigger savages. One has a Timney and the other, a sharpshooter supply trigger. Both are excellent, and fairly easy to install. However, I prefer the latter. Just a little better "feel". I am not sure if they are still being made or not.

I had tried a rifle basix (I think) in one of the rifles and found it to be too similar to the factory trigger for my liking.

I have heard it is difficult to get SSS triggers, but have heard good things about them. They make them in runs I guess and are often sold out with several month backlogs.

 

Thank you for the input. I may pursue trying to source an SSS trigger to see what they are like.

I have a number of Savages and I think I have tried just about every aftermarket trigger out there. The SSS is probably my favorite and you can find them from time to time over on Savage shooters forum fairly regular. My next favorite is probably the rifle basix. They make two different options and the Sav-1 is adjustable down to 2lbs and is a great trigger for a hunting rifle. They also make a Sav-2 that can be adjusted down to just over a pound I think and is more for benchrest type shooting. The latter probably being the most comparable to the Calvin Elite as far as feel goes.

I am looking for more of a nice hunting trigger. Probably 2-2.5lbs.

 

SSS says it can get up to 2lbs max, but would I be better served with a Timney or SAV-1?

 

I would like a Calvin Elite like trigger, but this gun is going to be a field gun. I want a nice clean trigger more than a crazy light trigger.

The standard Timney trigger and the Rifle Basix are both pretty good i think.

You would probably be more than happy with the rifle basix Sav-1 then. I have a couple of those in some hunting rigs and I am very happy with them. The triggers break nice and clean and for the cost they are very hard to beat for a Savage. I really like their Ruger M77 triggers as well in fact, I prefer them over the Timney in a Ruger.

Triggers are certainly about feel, so go with the feel. As far as Customer Service goes, I've never had a bad experience with Timney ... even on a trigger of theirs that was 20+ years old and installed on a rifle I didn't own when the trigger was installed. I said "can I buy one of these" and the guy said "no ... but you can have one. If it's ours, we cover it ... period." From that moment on I was sold.
