elkhunter Report post Posted January 11, 2017 I drive a toyota tacoma, my tires are running low bout 20% thread left. Tax season is coming up. My truck spends about 70% of its time on pavement and 30% on the dirt road/offroading. The toyota does towing too, a jumping jack and a quad or a ranger when I go hunting. What tires are good for a light weight truck in Arizona and a truck that does some towing? I asked my local tire shops and they all recommended the most expensive tires on the market around $300 a tire, I aint gonna drop $1200 on new tires.
GreyGhost85 Report post Posted January 11, 2017 Toyo AT's, Nitto AT's or BFG AT's should all last a long time on a tacoma. if you are running stock tire size, i would think you could pick up a set of any of them for around $800. i bought a set of 35x12.50x18 Nitto AT's a couple months ago for my cummins for $1050 new mounted and balanced. I will NEVER buy tires from the big box stores. their markup is ridiculous

GreyGhost85 Report post Posted January 11, 2017 I got them from Superior tire wholesale in phoenix. they are actually metric size so they aren't quite the same. they are like 34.5x11.8x18 i think. couldn't remember the exact size. that specific tire shop beats everyone's price. only place I'll buy tires anymore
dmoto Report post Posted January 11, 2017 I was running a 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser M/T 4x4 before I sold it in November and it had about 95k miles on it. At 30k miles, I ended up putting General Grabber AT2 tires on it. I hunt a ton of quail/ducks in the fall and tow a Champion 181 bass boat just about every weekend to the local lakes. It was my daily driver truck to work, probably did the same 70% pavement 30% off road/towing. I couldn't be more satisfied with the Grabber AT2. I will more than likely be putting the same tire on my 2016 4runner in the next few weeks. They held up great and had a ton of tread left when I sold my FJ. Tirerack.com has a pretty nice price on them right now. I ran a stock 17" rim on my FJ. When I originally purchased them, I actually bought them from a Chevy dealership out in Mesa who was running a buy 3 get 1 free deal. I think it was just over $800 mounted and balanced. I figured I'd give my input since the Tacoma and FJ are on very similar chassis, motors, etc.

AverageJoe Report post Posted January 11, 2017 If you want decent tires be prepared to spend $1000. I have an 08 FJ with BFG A/T KO2. They have 40,000 miles on them and still about 50% tread. I hve had nittos before and they suck for longevity. Muds are ok but suck if you drive a lot of pavement. The 2 i have found that are best on toyotas are the bfg all terrains and michelin all terrains with a big preference on the bfg's.
missedagain Report post Posted January 11, 2017 http://www.discounttire.com/en/buy-tires/cooper-discoverer-atp/p/11769 These are the tires I've been running on my Tacoma and have been very happy with them. These are the ATP which is only sold by discount but the AT3 is the same thing if you want to buy them elsewhere. They sell this in a LT which is the light truck that has more ply's with a higher weight rating as I tow my 4k pound travel trailer with them.

elkhunter Report post Posted January 12, 2017 Thank you all for the heads up, spend several hours researching each tire. Looks like I will be going with cooper AT3 on the Toyota, spoke to off roading guys and guides and they also recommended the AT3 and the fact it's going for $111 a tire is pretty attractive!
