Scale for food, weighing backpacking items etc..

Recommended Posts

So not sure how I have gotten this far without having a scale to weight food weights or other items like tents, stakes, sleeping pads and bags etc... I am trying to buy smarter and look for other ways in saving such as saving a few more bucks and buying a better lighter down sleeping bag instead of buying a bag now and another in 6 months.

Not sure what is out there and what they do, but maybe i need one that weights items from a few ounces to a 2 or 3lb range and another that does 3lbs and up?

What do you all use in scales and brands. I do use Amazon and if any good links please post them.

Thanks

Andrew

I need to look at mine...I think it's a postal scale I found on amazon. I bought it for weighing arrows and braoadheads in grains, but it will also weigh several pound items and in between.

Nevermind I just looked it up on Amazon. Doesn't weigh in pounds (will weigh in ounces though) and has 2kg max.

The postal scale I have used for years goes up to 8 lbs. This is fine for backpacking as no single item you have (including your pack and frame) are likely to weigh more than 8 lb. A scale is really useful as it is so easy to tell yourself "but that extra XXX only weights a few ounces." When you total up all the little luxury items it often comes to lbs.
