Rattlers

Recommended Posts

Just a friendly reminder: Watch for snakes!!!

I was walking to one of my vantage points the other morning with one of my buddies and stepped ON a small rattler. It was early and cool so he was fairly lethargic, but man talk about gettin' the blood flowing!!!

I have always believed seeing a rattle snake while hunting is a good luck oman. We killed three coues two years ago after nearly stepping on a rattler the night before. I was in 22 last weekend during opening morning of the elk hunt. During the middle of the day we about stepped on two timber rattlers. That night the big six-by came into the tyree stand we had just set up. (too bad my dads buddy choked)

While coming out from sugar loaf mountain practicing my shootin a 4 foot diamondback came out on the road. So I stopped picked up a good sized rock and killed him with one throw to the back of it's head. I cannot stand rattlers they are posseessed in my mind.

i got bit by some endangered rattler once. something like a mexican jumpin' rattler or some deal. anyway, he broke both fangs off on my rockhard massive bicep, finally broke the skin a little and then died from whatever he got from me. then the stinkin' fed's charged me with killin' and endangered species. i hate snakes! Yes Lark there will be the day that you'll get attack by a mountain lion,he will bite your arms and neck really bad but finally you are able to get your hand gun and kill him;guest what you will get a big fine not only for killing a mountain line in an area that was closed to hunting that year but you'll also get a ticket for littering and leaving your blood and pieces of your sking on the ground.-Self defense. -Yea right they'll tell you.

I'm going hunting.

Lark,

I'm beginning to suspect that you are just making some of this stuff up.

Case in point: There is no such thing as a "Mexican Jumping Snake", though the rest of the story sounds about right.

Funny you guys started this topic since I almost stepped on a small rattler in a canyon on my elk hunt. I was coming home in the dark and kinda stumbled over a rock when I heard that familiar buzzing sound. I looked down and he was there about 12 inches from my leg. Eeeeeekkk... I wasn't even thinking about rattlesnakes as a danger in that area. Anyway, the next morning or maybe it was two mornings later it was the best rutting activity of my elk hunt. I got into a lust-crazed herd of cows and about 8 bulls. They were fighting and screaming and trotting around all over the place. I passed on three of them, hoping to get to the herd bull. One was a 6 point at 30 yards, one a 6 point at 10 yards and one was a 5 point at 5 yards. And I was in the open when that 5 point trotted right by me and bugled. Pretty awesome to be so close to a bugling elk. He was so supercharged he didn't even notice me. Anyway, maybe it was the rattlesnake that kicked in the rut

Sounds like you got your money's worth on that elk hunt Amanda. Hunting rutting bulls is quite an experience. Good job on the passing up of the smaller bulls.

Yeah, me too Lark! Lots of experiences. And my mind is like a steel trap; everything that goes in there, gets mangled.
