7mm loads

Recommended Posts

I am looking for a good start load for hornandy 139 grain BTSP. I inherited 300 rounds and would like to improve from wal mart special rounds. It will be shot from a factory adl 700 all stock minus a floated stock. All input appreciated. Not looking for a" good to a 1000" round, just a good dependable load. Thanks for any help.

H4831, H414, H1000, RL22, IMR4831. All good starting powders for 7mm Mag most of the time.

I am working with RL22 with 168gr bullets in 7mm Rem Mag and they shoot well.

Either 4831 powder are more common to find on the shelf than the other 3 listed above though.

I shoot a load of 70gr of R22 with a 140 Barnes TTSX in Winchester case with a CCI 250 primer. In my rifle the bullets are seated out to a 3.39" oal. This load shoots 3260 fps in a 24" barrel.

H1000 for 168 Berger HVLD and 180 Berger Hybrid in my 7RM. I used to like light, fast bullets. Now I prefer the heavies, pushed fairly fast still. Out to 500-600 or so, it doesn't make much of a differance, but beyond that, the heavies really shine. I think a 160-168 is the perfect compromise in a 7RM. You can still get 3000+ easily, but much better retained energy.

My 7 mag loves RL22 and a 168 berger vld. No need to even try anything else. That combo has worked extremely well with 3 other 7 mags.

168 grain Bergers with Retumbo has been the winner for me. But I've also got buddies who have had great results with just about every powder mentioned. I'd say if you have any of the mentioned powders for other rifles, start there. I try to find common powders for as many of my rifles as possible to minimize having to buy many powders.

I use Retumbo for my magnum rifles, H4350 for my large rifles, and H335 for my small rifles.

I haven't loaded for 7mm Rem Mag in quite a few years, but I remember having success with 140 gr Nosler partitions/Ballistic tips with both Re22 and H4831. I'm sure the results would be the same with the 139 Hornadys.
