Don't blame yourself about the twig. I have been hunting archery for about 25 years and it still happens to me. Bare little twigs can be very hard to see. They will totally screw up your shot if your arrow clips one. Animals I have missed because of it include a real nice 5x5 buck and a monster 7x7 bull.
