MULEPACKHUNTER Report post Posted December 14, 2016 Maybe I am off base and I hope maybe I am. I hope it's just a temporary shortfall of funding but I am thinking commun sense and all possibility of even lackluster management of an agency is completely out the window. America the beautiful pass equals 85.00 plus 15.00 for boating pass and your good for the year on tonto right? Nope , toss that and 85.00 for both! Well I didn't buy this year so 4 dollars is all they got. Now I drive down to the lake and ,,,, oh the gates are locked to the boat ramp? Ok no big deal we launch in the dirt. Fast forward to the next day we come back to pull out and forest service is using the ramp! They pull out and lock the gate back up! I am confused, why exactly am I paying for lake use? I am so pissed right now. The place is a mess, really embarrassing to see , pit toilets are worthless, Ok I'm done but tonto national forest can kiss my bum, coal for Christmas for you dopes.

Probably the last time I really spent much time at Roosevelt was the late 80's and last summer for the first time I made several trips to Tonto lakes and was very disappointed in the fees set up, the lack of being able to get parking and boating stickers etc., left me scratching my head................we used to spend alot of time at Roosevelt but honestly the system really isn't very user friendly!!! dmoto Report post Posted December 14, 2016 Agreed. Rosy has really gone downhill. I used to love launching the boat at Schoolhouse and flipping the trees back in the sticks. But that was 6-7 years ago and the ramp has been out of the water for a while. It seems like a good 5 fish bag there is maybe 12 pounds. Sure, there's still the 6# bass still swimming around, but they seem so far and few between. Now a days, I just head to Apache. Much better fishing anyways. trphyhntr Report post Posted December 14, 2016 Forest service is a joke. they upped the fees with the tonto pass back in the day and then subcontract out the cleaning and maintenance anyways. i still dont have any idea what they do except write tickets occasionally
MULEPACKHUNTER Report post Posted December 14, 2016 I will say rosy is better but I was at Bartlett lake. Oh and the genius in the forest service boat decides he needs to clean the 300 motor out in the parking lot and fires it up right there out of the water! What a dope. They will be trying to figure out why it's overheating next trip out! Sounded cool thoug. Lol We caught cats all night. Nothing was stolen but I did pull the truck over to an old guy camping and asked him to police the area, he was happy to.
Trapdoor Report post Posted December 15, 2016 I'm new to Arizona and am trying to wrap my mind around boat launch use fees. Haven't seen this before in other states. Given all the other fees I pay, unfortunately I haven't launched my boat here due to my principles. I hope to come around soon and just pony up the additional money... All my other money in fees is supposed to pay for this, I feel. If I saw a government official use a ramp closed to me and lock it up behind themselves, I'd go ballistic... What is up with paying to launch your boat here?

MULEPACKHUNTER Report post Posted December 15, 2016 It's not a ramp fee but a watercraft fee. Believe it or not they charge a family for kayaks. Same a a boat even though it does not need to be registered ( oh and yes you pay for registration of watercraft) Sao wether you launch it or not you pay to get to the water. Cost me some cash to take the kids out with the kayaks last year! Some facilities are well mantained and I have no problem with paying, but Bartlett lake is a joke. I think I also read on the Tonto site those one flat board with the big oars that you stand on you have to pay for as well.......never can remember what those things are but it sure is fun to watch when all the sudden the wind comes up!!!! MULEPACKHUNTER Report post Posted December 15, 2016 Yes the sup or stand up boards pay as well. Those are fun and a good workout by the way.
