IA Born Report post Posted November 30, 2016 This may be a stupid question, but I'm going to ask for insight, anyway. To preface why this is probably stupid, I've never used a bipod on a rifle of mine. I've avoided them because 1) I wasn't sure how to make them work with a sling; and 2) I've always found a way to make do with a solid rest because that's how I was taught. Admittedly, I've never looked at a bipod to see how a sling will still attach, but I know they can still be attached. Now, as I'm working on redoing my daughter's rifle to help her, especially as we work on shooting longer distances, I'm thinking a bipod is the right thing. I have a Primos Gen 2 Trigger Stick tripod (18-38") for when she's sitting and/or kneeling and she likes it. I'm thinking that a bipod and shooting prone (whenever possible) would be a better long-term solution for steadying her. So, with that, what bipods and heights do you recommend, especially ones that won't break the bank and will be easier to justify to my wife! I've seen that they have all kinds of height ranges. I'm assuming a 9"-13" bipod is too high for prone, especially for a teenage girl. From the research I've done over the years, just testing the waters a little, Harris and Caldwell seem to have the best reviews. And I've thought about the Triclawps adapter, too. Thanks! cjl2010 Report post Posted November 30, 2016 My wife, Dad, and I have all killed an animal with my Harris 9-13. That is my go to bipod if I know the grass isn't going to be tall. If I know there bill be tall grass I will use my 12-25. Do yourself a favor and pay extra for the swivel model. There is a spot on the bipod to attach and sling and it carries fine like that.
Kingzero Report post Posted December 2, 2016 I would go with this..... https://www.midwayusa.com/product/155546/harris-s-brm-bipod-leg-notch-sling-swivel-stud-mount-6-to-9-black It's a little expensive but is worth every penny. The swivel is worth it and the notched legs is a must. 6-9 should be the right height for her.

The more I look at it and research brands, the more I realize that Harris is the way to go. There was one on Midway that was half the price and had great reviews, but I keep leaning towards this and something I read by Cactus Jack in another post: "I try to follow the buy once, cry once rule." Pretty sure if I couch in terms of it being for the kids, my wife will understand. She wants to see them succeed!
Red Rabbit Report post Posted December 2, 2016 My preference is for the Harris 25C swivel model. I found that the extra 2" with the 27" is just a little nicer when sitting than the 25" model. I also like to use a set of crossed sticks under the rifle butt. The Triclawps or Riflerailz would be nice if you're using a tripod for glassing. Crossed sticks under the butt are still nice in conjunction.

I'm considering the Triclawps because I can take her binocs off and mount that on her tripod while I keep spotting through my glass. I hadn't thought of the crossed sticks under the butt, though. I have a set of shooting sticks that will work perfectly. Thanks!

bonecollector Report post Posted December 2, 2016 A short bipod and the triclawps together.
Red Rabbit Report post Posted December 3, 2016 If weight is a concern, a SnipePod may be an option over a Harris. Since they are attached to the rifle, looks to be more handy than StoneyPoint SteadyStix or Primos TriggerStix https://kramerdesignscorp.com/V2SnipePod.html For prone, the daypack would make a good field rest., and one could get the appropriate sized bipod for sitting. I suspect sitting would be used more often in the hunting field due to obscurring grass and shrubs.

Then I realized he had the front of the gun sitting on a tripod and the back supported with sticks. If your already gonna have a tripod with you I'd lose the bipod and go with the triclawps and sticks. Bipods a pain if your on a steep hillside, plus it's extra weight if you already have a tripod. cactusjack Report post Posted December 3, 2016 I use a bipod on all my hunting rifles even when I have it set up for my Larue tripod mount. I like being able to leave my rifle resting on the bipod while glassing. Keeps it out of the dirt. I didn't put the bipod on for this picture.
dse Report post Posted December 3, 2016 I use the Harris 25c. The shorter ones work better off the bench but when when trying to set up on angles with grass sticks and rocks in the way the extra height helps a ton.
300RUM Report post Posted January 2, 2017 If you go with the Harris swivel there are aftermarket levers to replace the round knob that tightens up the swivel once you have leveled the rifle. They work much better , all my bipods have them.
Flatlander Report post Posted January 2, 2017 Triclawps is awesome but definitely need to support the butt stock. I've got one if you want to try it out.
