Becker Report post Posted November 21, 2016 Well we filled our personal tags for the year. It has been a good one. Jason took what I consider one heck of a trophy. We are guessing that this buck was 8+. We were keeping tabs on him for quit some time this year. When he stepped out Jason couldn't resist and I wouldn't have either. I was lucky to take this buck. After watching a couple hunters sneak in to the country we were looking in and shooting two times, we were unsure as to what had actually happened. We never saw what they shot at. We had been watching a particular buck and he disappeared after that day. After running into the guys at their camp they informed us that they had shot at a deer. Missed the first shot and then took a quick follow up shot as the deer fled. They were sure the deer was hit but couldn't find any blood etc etc etc. They shot on day one left on day four. On day 6 Jason and I finally caught a glimpse of the buck. He had indeed been hit and I am way surprised that he wasn't dead. I was really debating on whether or not to shoot the buck or let him go another year as I felt he was not an older age classed deer. After confirming that he was wounded my decision was made for me. I was not actually able to make the next hunt but Jason took a young man out to one of our little honey holes and I am pretty sure ruined the kid for the rest of his life with this giant!!! Last but not least my little huntress Jody. She never ceases to amaze me. Not only was she hunting with a dang muzzleloader but she is 7 months pregnant. I wasn't sure how well she was going to be able to handle getting around but she kicked the mountain in the teeth. I had been watching this buck but for the first couple of days he had given us the slip. We relocated him on the third day but he was in a tough spot. Jody never batted an eye and made the trek in. We slipped in to 100 yards and after about an hour wait the buck stood up and that was all she wrote. After it was all said and done Jody had hiked a little over 6 miles that day. She was wore out but she had one unique buck. 110" gross inches if he hadn't broke the G2 off a little when he back flopped. Oh aaaaaand 3 antlers. Needless to say we are more than happy. I wouldn't be able to do any of it without my family and friends. I am thankful each and everyday. Good luck to those with tags yet to come. Can't wait to see some more grip and grin pictures of happy hunters!!!

OpticNerd Report post Posted November 21, 2016 Outstanding bucks congrats. Hats off for deciding to take that wounded buck out. After seeing the pics that guy must have been hurting pretty bad. Do you think he would have made it another year if you would have passed on him?

Becker Report post Posted November 21, 2016 No I don't think he would have survived. He had multiple vertebrae exposed. Maggots were in the wound. I peeled the skin off his entire body was green and yellow with infection. You could smell him from 10 yards away. Nastiest thing I've seen in a long time.
