Guest oneshot Report post Posted November 20, 2016 My favourite desert snack, christmass cactus fruits...kiwi/strawberry/watermelon taste... Found an area with a bumper-crop, if they werent so hard to collect enough/process, I'd try to make some shine out of it...
CouesWhitetail Report post Posted November 20, 2016 I haven't tried them, but saw a bunch on a hike the other day and wondered if they were good to eat. Thanks for the info. Do you eat them while in the field or take them home? How do you remove the tiny spines?
Guest oneshot Report post Posted November 20, 2016 The spines are little hairs, you can put them into an empty water bottle, add alittle water and shake, then dump into your hand and rinse off... you still get spines in your lips, but the flavour is awesome... hahaha
brademan76 Report post Posted November 30, 2016 Christmas Cholla... I target this stuff in New Mexico when hunting scaled quail. They eat the little pears/fruit whole!

bvanetten Report post Posted December 4, 2016 Put them in a spaghetti strainer and light them up with a propane torch while you slosh them around in the strainer. This should burn off the hairs/spines.
